Sandhill House Country Retreat Information

Description

Sandhill House is the perfect countryside retreat to escape to and enjoy select bed and breakfast accommodation in the heart of the breathtaking Tamar Valley. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and World Heritage Site, this select B&B Cornwall is the ideal gateway to explore the 'hidden' Tamar Valley's fantastic natural environment and world changing heritage, Dartmoor National Park, Bodmin Moor and historic Naval city of Plymouth. In addition Sir Francis Drake's hometown, Tavistock, is less 10 minutes drive and both the rugged north and sandy south coasts being just 30-40 minutes away. It is also ideal for exploring several National Trust properties, or for business if you prefer to avoid the big hotel chains. Historic Sandhill House is an exclusive but relaxed retreat, far from the 'madding crowd', but with excellent travel options. The elegant and enchanting Grade II Listed Georgian home was originally the great mine owner, John Williams', 'Manor'. Restored to it's former glory with facilities including king size beds, beautifully appointed en-suites, free wifi throughout, and Freeview TV/DVD and hospitality trays. There is a breakfast menu choice, offering the best ethically sourced produce, served in the Georgian dining room. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept dogs in the house because of our own dear dogs. With public transport, including the scenic Tamar Valley Railway Line, at the end of the carriage drive, Sandhill House is the perfect place for walkers and cyclists on the National Cycle Route . Other local activities include tree-surfing and canoeing on the beautiful Tamar River. Guests are welcome to relax in the tranquil, horticultural ‘treasure trove’ gardens. We regret extensive ornamental ponds make Sandhill unsuitable for children.

Sandhill Country House Retreat

The best way to describe our home is that it is enchanted, which is why our blog is called Once Upon a Time. We arrived to an uncut diamond which is now evolving into a shining diamond, as each facet is polished. With each room having its own character, which echoes the long history of this key 'Manor' in the Tamar Valley, you can truly relax in the tranquil setting and 'recharge your batteries'.

Sandhill House Country Retreat has been welcoming guests since April 2014

Accessibility

Unfortunately due to the listed building status of Sandhill House and the Tamar Orchard Barn it is not suitable for guests with significant mobility issues. We can however, recommend a truly lovely holiday stay at Todsworthy Farm in Albaston where their facilities have been developed to a very high level.
