Thanks for a great review we are pleased that you enjoyed our evening meal and also breakfast. Its wonderful that people do like the character of the house, we have tried hard to keep original features and also to combine them with 21st Century technology.

"Beautifully designed rooms, comfy beds"
Confusion at the start as we thought we had booked a specific room, Paul's, which was the photo shown on the website, and having stayed before the room I wanted. Didn't realise we were just being given any room. The room we had was smaller but okay apart from the underfloor heating and the heavy counterpane on the bed, meaning it got very hot. Next time will ask for a duvet I think, blanket also heavy and too big for bed. Read less
Likes:
Ron knows how to cook poached eggs, a skill not always encountered. Comfortable bed except for heavy blanket. Feel at home there
Dislikes:

Response from Colton House:
Online bookings means you book a grade of room, in this case 1 of 7 rooms. The only way to get a specific room is to ring. Paul's room is 137sq ft the bathroom 63sq ft, and the room she had is 150sq ft bathroom 90sq ft, thus not smaller. We removed the counterpane and provided the the two blankets she wanted. In our confirmation to her prior to arrival we did ask if she wanted a duvet. Ron is pleased that you enjoyed the poached eggs.

Nice room, extras like bathrobe and slippers you wouldn't normally get with a B&B (but I would rather have done without those, and the minibar, and had a proper hairdryer instead).
Dislikes:
Food not very good - they would do better to have a shorter menu with fresh food properly cooked, and not offer dinner at restaurant prices which is really just ready-meals reheated.
Response from Colton House:
Jackie went straight to her room only leaving for meals & go to a wedding. She never saw the cleaners as they could not get into her room during the time they were here, This meant that Ron had to clean her room when she was out, i.e Saturday afternoon. There's a proper hairdryer in her bathroom. Nowhere ever, do we say that we are a hotel, the guests confirmation letter says that we are a B&B. Beef stew is the only meal cooked in batches, vegetables were picked from the garden that afternoon.

Colton House is a special place to stay providing a luxury personal service to all its guests in individually designed bedrooms, some with original beamed ceilings, ornate plasterwork ceilings or cast iron fireplaces. Beds are extremely comfortable and up to 6’0’’ wide. Rooms have LCD or Plasma TVs with some as big as 60” one room has its own Wii. Freeview is standard and free Wi Fi is available anywhere in the house and parts of the 1.5 acre garden. There is comfortable seating in each bedroom, a hospitality tray and a choice of duvet or blankets/ sheets. Each room has a mini bar with beer, wine, soft drinks, water and chocolates. Attention to detail as well as the quiet village setting ensures you have a good night’s sleep.

Bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with shower and bath, many with multi jet body power showers, others include one with a double ended cast iron roll top bath or another with a 5’ dia. round Jacuzzi, all have luxury toiletries and plush dressing gowns.

A well-stocked oak paneled bar is open 24/7, a comfortable lounge and a dining room with seating for 24. Breakfast wins awards every year with a very wide choice.

Situated in a quiet village, close to The National Memorial Arboretum, Shugborough, Alton Towers, Drayton Manor, the potteries, Cannock Chase, Lichfield etc.
Available for conferences, team building, or corporate events, it is ideal for groups up to 30 but can accommodate 80. Companies use the secluded nature of the place to have confidential meetings / interviews or just to walk about and develop ideas with staff or others they wish to work with. For these events you can choose just a coffee or a buffet, full sit down meal or for something different, perhaps a hog roast. You just have to decide and Ron & Gay will help make the event all you want it to be.

With all this space and the ability to take over a whole house, ideal events are small wedding receptions, birthday parties and christenings.
Environmental Statement
In designing the rooms we were mindful of the environment and tried to provide comfort with an eye to renewable/energy efficient equipment. Double glazed windows and are fitted with draft excluders. Insulation on the external walls, floor and roof space is at the highest level possible. Carpets have a high wool content; the underlay is a recycled material, sheets and blankets are natural fibres. The toilets are low volume flush models. Heating is by the most energy efficient boiler available using thermostatically controlled skirting radiators and under floor heating when possible. Energy efficient bulbs are used, wherever possible. Organic methods are used to grow vegetables, paper, and kitchen waste is recycled. We buy local produce where possible. Leaflets are available on local environmental attractions including circular walks. We ask that towels to be washed are placed in the bath; otherwise they are dried and returned for reuse, the washing is completed overnight
