Description

The String of Horses Inn & Restaurant is a traditional coaching inn set in one of the most beautiful and historic areas of Britain, near the World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall, The Lake District and the Scottish Borders. Dating from around 1659, the inn is located in the quiet country village of Faugh, only 10 minutes from Carlisle and junction 43 of the M6 motorway. The inn features many original and traditional features such as oak panelling, open log fires and stoves, leaded diamond windows, brass and copperware, sandstone fireplaces and wooden beams. All guest rooms are ensuite and there is free Wi-fi throughout. Bar is open 7 nights a week and the restaurant is open Monday-Saturday (Closed Sundays).

As an old building, the inn is not well designed for people with mobility issues and has no lifts / elevators or ramps over split levels.

Directions

  • Road from A69 - From the East (3.0 miles)
    From the East: turn left at the Corby Hill / Warwick Bridge traffic lights. These are the first set of traffic lights on the A69, some 3 miles after having passed Brampton. Proceed for 1 mile through the village of Heads Nook and a further mile until the road bears sharply right. As the road bears right, turn left into FAUGH village - you will find the String of Horses on your left as you go down the hill.
  • Road from M6 and Carlisle (6.0 miles)
    From the North, South or West: take the A69 from J43 on the M6, in the direction of Hexham / Newcastle, and after 5 -6 miles turn right at the 1st set of traffic lights at Corby Hill / Warwick Bridge. Proceed for 1 mile through the village of Heads Nook and a further mile until the road bears sharply right. As the road bears right, turn left into FAUGH (pronounced FAFF) village - you will find the String of Horses on your left as you go down the hill.
  • Air from Newcastle Airport (50.0 miles)
    Head east on the A69. Turn left at the Corby Hill / Warwick Bridge traffic lights. These are the first set of traffic lights on the A69, some 3 miles after having passed Brampton. Proceed for 1 mile through the village of Heads Nook and a further mile until the road bears sharply right. As the road bears right, turn left into FAUGH village - you will find the String of Horses on your left as you go down the hill.
