The Old Vicarage Information

Description

The Old Vicarage Llangurig is a distinctive Victorian property which has been tastefully converted to a cosy4-star graded Bed and Breakfast with antiques and artwork, and is situated in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains in Powys, Mid-Wales. Little has been altered inside or outdoors, with the original wooden shutters, oak staircase and original fireplaces. All the bedrooms are well furnished, with en-suite facilities in every room. The facilites at The Old Vicarage mean we are unable to welcome children. The house is set in just under half an acre of sloping informal gardens. There are many attractions and activities in and around the Old Vicarage. Llangurig, at 300 metres above sea level, is one of the highest villages in Wales and is a short distance from the market town of Llanidloes. It is the first village on the River Wye which rises, with the Severn, in the Plynlimon hills some six miles away. There is a popular walk to the source of both rivers and there are several national cycle routes pass through the village. The Old Vicarage is within easy reach of the Elan Valley, Aberystwyth and many local attractions. There are walking and cycling routes on the doorstep, and many outdoor pursuits are within each reach including off-road biking and motor cycling, angling, canoeing, shooting and much more. There is a lounge with many interesting books and maps for guests to borrow, with many on the Mid Wales countryside and area. Our breakfast menu features local produce, and we also offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Packed lunches are available to order. LGBT friendly. We are a No-Smoking property. Pets by arrangement. Check-In time: from 14.00 and Check-Out time up to 10.00.

The Old Vicarage is family owned and operated, and we focus too on providing the best from Welsh suppliers, with our breakfasts highlighting local produce and we also offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Packed lunches are available to order. Other little extras include eco-friendly toiletries and hand-made soaps. We are proud to be LGBT friendly. The Old Vicarage is a non-smoking property and we welcome pets by arrangement. Many of our guests return year after year - why not give us a try - you will not be disappointed. The facilites at The Old Vicarage mean we are unable to welcome children. Whatever activity you are doing or whatever you want, you’ll find The Old Vicarage is the place where you can truly unwind.

Directions

A car is recommended when staying at the property
  • Road from The North (via Newtown) (20.0 miles)

Pick up the A483 from Oswestry, around Welshpool and Newtown. South of Newtown this turns into the A470. Llangurig is signposted from Newtown. 5 miles after passing Llanidloes, you will reach a roundabout where the A44 joins the A470.
Turn right at the roundabout (towards Aberystwyth on the A44) into Llangurig. As you enter the village, just after the 30mph signs and just before The Black Lion pub, turn right on to the side road. Follow this road for approximately 100 metres.
The Old Vicarage is on the left, with the entrance to the car park at the end of the hedge.

  • Road from The South (via Rhayader) (10.0 miles)

Pick up either the A44 from Worcester, or the A470 running up from South Wales, and follow to Rhayader. In Rhayader take the A470 north towards Llangurig. After approximately 9 miles, you will reach a roundabout where the A44 leaves the A470.
Turn left at the roundabout (towards Aberystwyth on the A44) into Llangurig. As you enter the village, just after the 30mph signs and just before The Black Lion pub, turn right on to the side road. Follow this road for approximately 100 metres.
The Old Vicarage is on the left, with the entrance to the car park at the end of the hedge.

  • Road from Coach Stop and Village Centre (0.0 km)

Coaches stop in nearby Llanidloes, form where local bus services operate to Llangurig. Walking and cycling routes pass the Post Office.
Walk along the road opposite The Black Lion, past the tea rooms, to where the main road starts to bend. Cross the road at the coloured road surface (good visibility both ways) and take the road opposite. There is a sign for The Old Vicarage on the grass verge area.
Follow this road for about 100 metres, and you will see The Old Vicarage on the left. The entrance is at the end of the hedge, leading into the car park.
