Only a couple of minutes from the A303 and just 5 minutes by car to the famous ornamental gardens and house at Stourhead, The Walnut Tree Inn makes an ideal stopping off place on journeys to and from the West country. Just 15 minutes by car to the famous Longleat Safari Park and House, and the Center Parcs resort, we are open every day to welcome guests to this beautiful part of the south west whether living here, staying on holiday or just passing through for an hour or two. The Walnut Tree also offers unrivalled comfort inside, first class facilities for al-fresco drinking and dining, excellent disabled access and services and a fantastic children's play park which is guaranteed to keep the youngsters happy! Situated in the heart of Mere, which is nestled in the Wiltshire/Somerset borders and close to Dorset. Mere is ideally situated to visit a number of Outstanding Areas of Natural Beauty, as well as National Trust Gardens and Homes. Mere is on the Wiltshire Cycleway, maps of the route can be picked up from the local Tourist information Centres. Wiltshire boasts great on or off road cycling. The Monarch's Way is nearby, also local walks on Mere Down and around Stourhead the World-famous 18th-century landscape garden and Palladian mansion are nearby.

Accessibility

Level access to pub and restaurant from car park. Wide door disabled toilet on ground floor with level access, large enough to take a wheelchair. The rooms are situated on the first floor and all doors are of standard width. There is one small step in accomodation corridor. Staff always on hand to help with luggage to and from car and rooms.

Directions

  • Road from A 303 Westbound (1.0 miles)
    From A303 heading West. Take the first exit for Mere. Head into the centre and you will pass Yapp Brothers wine merchants on your left followed by FJ Chalke's car showrooms on your right. Take the first left after passing Chalke's and you will drive down Boar Street (the Post Office will be opposite you as you turn left). Follow the road for about half a mile. You will go over a small bridge and bear to the right. Follow the road for approx 300 yards and you will find us on the left hand side.
  • Road from A 303 Eastbound (1.5 miles)
    Exit the 303 and at the junction turn right. At next junction turn right and follow signs to Mere. Drive past Old Ship on left and George Inn on right. Take 2nd right turn after The George and pass the Post Office on your right hand side. Continue down the road for approx half a mile. Go over a small bridge, bear to the right and continue for approx 300 yards until you come to The Walnut Tree Inn on your left hand side. The car park is to the rear.

    Taxis are always available outside the station entrance.
