Europe is the most variable continent in terms
of pricing and
listing sizes between Booking Services. Some sites have large listings and very good prices
for their home country (eg Bookings.org in Holland and Venere in
Italy - their respective home countries), but outside them they
can have quite erratic prices. Overall HotelsCentral, CNG Hotels and Expedia have the best
range and HotelsCentral are consistently close to the best prices for their
rooms.
Our recommendation is to find one or two hotels you would be
happy to stay in for a particular city and then look them up in every
one of our Recommended Hotel Reservation sites. The prices can
vary widely for the same room. There is not one site that
consistently is better value than competitors.

Sol Meliá is the leading hotel company in Spain, Latin America and the
Caribbean, the third largest hotel company in Europe and number
ten in the world ranking.
Accorhotel.com - Very large French based hotel chain providing
reservation services for chain hotels with locations worldwide.
They have some good Internet-only specials.
Opodo - A neat on-line travel
site created by nine of Europe's leading airlines: Aer Lingus, Air
France, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Finnair,
Iberia, KLM and Lufthansa. The hotel reservation part of this site
uses the WORLDRES reservation system and the same prices and
conditions as PlacesToStay apply.
French Hotel
Reservation Center. The best place to get a Paris hotel or
anywhere else in France. Lots of choice and individual reviews by
customers and prices are generally very competitive.
BANCOTEL Checkbook is a unique
product developed by the Spanish company Promoción y Planificación
Hotelera, S.A. You can get off-peak accommodation in more
than 1500 hotels, all over the world, but mainly in Europe and
Latin America, from three to five stars, basically at three
different prices (per night): 49.95
Euros (one check), 99.90 Euros (two
checks) and 149.85 Euros (three
checks). The prices are per twin room (two people), and in some
cases include breakfast. You must purchase a minimum of 1
checkbook (5 checks) and they are valid for 12 months. You can get
some very good deals here particularly if you travel regularly
within Europe. You can view availability and reserve rooms through
the web-site.
