Thank you for taking the time to give feedback. Over the past few months Regency House has under gone a major renovation and our team have been racing against the cloak to get the major work done and the rooms open for bookings. During this time we had continue trading the business and there were times the wifi was turned off and we have problems with our hot water. We are very proud to say we now have a beautiful Guest House with fast WIFI and plenty of hot water!

Likes?
The location was not too far the business venue, the price is very reasonable, it was recommended by my hoest.
Dislikes?
No WiFi and sharing shower/bathroom/toilet.
Plus that there were building activities, which seemed to give problems with the hot water via the washbasin in my room.

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback. Over the past few months Regency House has under gone a major renovation and our team have been racing against the cloak to get the major work done and the rooms open for bookings. We now have added in extra bathrooms, taken out the Saniflo toilets, replaced radiators and TV's. I am sorry to hear you did not make it for breakfast, we get really positive feedback about our breakfast.

Thank you for your review Mary and I am so pleased you thought your room was clean and nicely made. We work very hard to keep Regency House at it's best. I agree with you that Regency House was looking shabby, we have just finished a full renovation and I am sure if you stayed again you would not feel disappointed by the first impressions, we have new carpets and are now fair from shabby.

Examiner's first choice

This is the third time I've stayed at Regency Guest House because it serves my needs perfectly whenever I'm in Cambridge on examining business, and is significantly better than the 'officially approved' accommodation available if you book through the exam board. The location is perfect for the Hills Road examining offices and there are plenty of interesting and reasonably-priced places to eat nearby. Read more

Overall Poor if you intend on staying in the 'Family Room'

We had a 2 night stay at the Regency Guest House, and stayed in the 'newly renovated' family room (3 adults). The room was situated on the ground floor next to the front door. Our room is adjoined to the bathroom of room 9, so we could hear everything, EVERYTHING! Also, being right next to the main corridor, we were interrupted by other guests passing through. Some even knocked on our door thinking it was 'reception'. Based on the overall experience, I'm afraid it wasn't 'adequate'. Read more

Response

Thank you for your review Mary and I know this room was not to the high standard it should have been back in the summer. Since your stay we have fulled renovated, the renoavtions have included a redesign or this room and the one next door. The two bathrooms now have sound proofing between them 9as do all our floors) We also have matching doors so this bedroom nolonger has a door that can be mistaken as an office door. The new doors are very heavy oak doors which close out a lot of sound.

Great Location - great for a one night stopover.

A friend and I stayed in Cambridge for one night, to attend a Bilbao dance workshop, and picked this guest house due to it's location. It was perfectly placed half way between the station and the venue for the evening social dance. When we booked we were sent a code for the main door, which was great, but it meant that there would be no one available in case of any problems. The guest house, our room and the facilities were clean, but we didn't think our stay represented good value for money. Read more

Room OK. Breakfast time far too short.

We found having no one to welcome us very strange. Clearly they are saving money by just having one employee on each day but it is not guest friendly.
Offering breakfast from 8-9 only is outrageous especially at the weekend. This is clearly to suit their interests and not in the interests of guests. We assumed this meant that breakfast was to be ordered until 9 but the poor waitress seemed to imply we needed to finish by 9. I wonder if she needed to hurry to clean the rooms. Usually I rave about my stay, this was extremely disappointing

I stayed in room 8 and for the first of many trips am extremely disappointed. I had to go down two flights of stairs to use the bathroom. The heat in Room 8 was unbareable. Just sitting in the room I was in a complete sweat which I believe is a result of constant sunlight throughout the day. The Noise of the beer garden below was extremely loud but of course I could not shut the window as it was so hot. The wireless also does not work in Room 8 so I was stuck sitting on the stairs to do work. Read more

Not ensuite - warning

I dodn't do a big search of B&B in the area of Cambridge I wanted to stay, which in retrospect might have shown up discrepancies in cost. I just saw the Regency, thought the price for a single room is about right and didn't check whether rooms had bathrooms - it's years since I stayed in even a remote B&B without ensuite bathrooms. So if you don't like sharing your shower and toilet with strangers, this might be a place to avoid. Otherwise, it's good value compared to other places locally Read more

I had one overnight stay on Sunday. The Regency should be described as a B & B rather than a hotel. It was clean and easy to get to. I did not realise it was not en-suite but the bathroom was literally outside of my door and was immaculate so I have no complaints about that. Breakfast was basic continental but perfectly adequate. book a room with bathroom but when there the room didn´t have a bathroom

The room was small but nice and tidy. I booked a room with bathroom but when I got there they said I had to use the shared bathrooms (only 2 for 8 rooms. I was disappointed as I wouldn´t have booked there if I knew that. There were other B and B with better price for a room with a shared bathroom. Read more

Budget trip

We didn't want to go straight home to London after some time in Italy so went at very very short notice to Cambridge - we got a discounted room and were happy enough with it - the bedroom was nicely decorated and appointed, with a cosy view of the back yard. We wouldn't have been happy if we'd paid full price, though; it was a very so-so experience overall. That said, we were delighted at having a cheap opportunity to visit Cambridge. Read more

Facilities (esp bathroom) weren't super clean, the bathroom itself was a fairly scrappy space, and breakfast consisted of clearly the cheapest possible food - "plastic" ham, etc.

Great location

I enjoyed my stay at Regency House. It is an excellent location on Parker's Piece (15 minute walk from the train station, 5 minute walk to the National Express, near many pubs, and practically in the city centre). The room was well equipped with a tea kettle, hair dryer, and nice shower. It was also nice that they had an iron and ironing board in the basement (breakfast room). Great internet too! Read more

In addition to the great location, breakfast was tasty and the staff were very friendly! It was nice to have a door code that allowed us to come and go when we wanted to.

My husband and I stayed for one night in a double room with private bathroom. The room was fantastic, nice and light and warm with a very comfy bed. The location was 5 minute walk from the centre of town, and the breakfast was great. We were given a code to enter the building which meant we could check in any time after 2pm which suited us fine. Delightful guesthouse, shame about the bathrooms (lack of)

I picked the guesthouse as it is close to the centre of Cambridge whilst still being affordable. A lot of thought had gone into the details, both to make guests' stays comfortable and also to enable the guesthouse to be run in a streamlined way. Very comfortable bed and duvet, simple furniture, lack of clutter all positives. The fact that there was only one combined shower room and loo working on the night I stayed when all 8 rooms were occupied was a big negative. Read more

Lack of adequate bathroom facilities! Even if both bathrooms had been working that's hardly enough for potentially 12 people in the morning, particularly as the loo is in the same room as the shower.

Great location, but could have improved with more attention to detail.

I stayed in room 4 on floor 2, which shares a small bathroom with a few other rooms. The room was clean and warm, but lacked details such as soaps etc which would have made the stay more comfortable. The bathroom was clean but poorly presented, the shower was warm, but had very poor water pressure.
The breakfast and breakfast room were lovely, and I was able to leave my bags there after checkout to collect later and freshen up. Overall, I am glad that I stayed there because of this facility. Read more

Thank you for your nice comments about our breakfast and aftercare service allowing you to leave your luggage and we take on board your comments on our shower room, we are refitting this shower room in the next few weeks to bring it up to the high standard of our other shared bathroom so our future guests will hopefully be more comfortable. With regards to refreshments in the room, we have breakfast tea and coffee but will consider adding fruit tea to our selection.
Thank you again for staying

A comfortable & friendly house

On arrival we were able to check in early, and received a very warm welcome from the the owner. We explained our reason for visiting and received lots of useful information and advice. The house was warm (maybe too warm) and clean - we had a choice of rooms - the first on the top floor was nice but the door would not lock, so we moved to the ground floor into a better room anyway, and this was all done without a hitch. Room was clean and comfortable and to top it off we were offered a free night Read more

Good and quiet location, but a bit unprofessional

I decided to stay in a guest house as it can be more welcoming and personal than a hotel. However, there are no staff there when guests arrive, which is an issue if there are any hitches. Guests use a PIN code system to access the property.

Squashed and uncomfortable

We have an 18 month old baby and unfortunately were given a room at the top of the hotel which made carrying our baggage plus baby stuff a struggle. The room was very small with no air con, no toiletries, no milk for tea/coffee and the bedding smelled damp although appeared clean. We were given a set of towels which were not changed during our stay and there was no bath, only a tiny shower which had very low water pressure and cut out halfway through. We did not see any staff throughout our stay Read more

Extremely disappointed

As we walked in the door of our room the first things we noticed was the broken washbasin facing the door. The whole surround had caved in, all the edging of the unit had come off and the basin itself was leaking into a towel underneath! The bedroom was cramped with a miniscule wardrobe and 3 tiny drawers as storage. The shower room was also tiny and very dilapidated. The whole room smelt unsurprisingly of damp. It was appalling value for money and we will not be returning. Read more

We would definitely stay here again. The guesthouse has clearly been refurbished in a simple, contemporary style, although the tiling on the sink in our room needed some work.
