two main problems: impossible to sleep during the night due to the pub being just next to the hotel. Even when the pub closes (past midnight), people stay outside to have a chat, laughing, speaking, etc. The problem exists both during the week and the weekend and is worse starting from Friday night ! Breakfast is fine if you do not have to leave to early in the weekend (starting at 9 am on Saturdays and Sundays). Read more

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback. Over the past few months Regency House has under gone a major renovation and our team have been racing against the cloak to get the major work done and the rooms open for bookings. During this time we had continue trading the business and there were times the wifi was turned off and we have problems with our hot water. We are very proud to say we now have a beautiful Guest House with fast WIFI and plenty of hot water!

Thank you for your review Mary and I am so pleased you thought your room was clean and nicely made. We work very hard to keep Regency House at it's best. I agree with you that Regency House was looking shabby, we have just finished a full renovation and I am sure if you stayed again you would not feel disappointed by the first impressions, we have new carpets and are now fair from shabby.

This is the third time I've stayed at Regency Guest House because it serves my needs perfectly whenever I'm in Cambridge on examining business, and is significantly better than the 'officially approved' accommodation available if you book through the exam board. The location is perfect for the Hills Road examining offices and there are plenty of interesting and reasonably-priced places to eat nearby. Read more

We had a 2 night stay at the Regency Guest House, and stayed in the 'newly renovated' family room (3 adults). The room was situated on the ground floor next to the front door. Our room is adjoined to the bathroom of room 9, so we could hear everything, EVERYTHING! Also, being right next to the main corridor, we were interrupted by other guests passing through. Some even knocked on our door thinking it was 'reception'. Based on the overall experience, I'm afraid it wasn't 'adequate'. Read more
Thank you for your review Mary and I know this room was not to the high standard it should have been back in the summer. Since your stay we have fulled renovated, the renoavtions have included a redesign or this room and the one next door. The two bathrooms now have sound proofing between them 9as do all our floors) We also have matching doors so this bedroom nolonger has a door that can be mistaken as an office door. The new doors are very heavy oak doors which close out a lot of sound.

A friend and I stayed in Cambridge for one night, to attend a Bilbao dance workshop, and picked this guest house due to it's location. It was perfectly placed half way between the station and the venue for the evening social dance. The guest house, our room and the facilities were clean, but we didn't think our stay represented good value for money. Read more

We found having no one to welcome us very strange. Clearly they are saving money by just having one employee on each day but it is not guest friendly.
Offering breakfast from 8-9 only is outrageous especially at the weekend. This is clearly to suit their interests and not in the interests of guests. We assumed this meant that breakfast was to be ordered until 9 but the poor waitress seemed to imply we needed to finish by 9. I wonder if she needed to hurry to clean the rooms. I stayed in room 8 and for the first of many trips am extremely disappointed. I had to go down two flights of stairs to use the bathroom. The heat in Room 8 was unbareable. Just sitting in the room I was in a complete sweat which I believe is a result of constant sunlight throughout the day. The Noise of the beer garden below was extremely loud but of course I could not shut the window as it was so hot. I dodn't do a big search of B&B in the area of Cambridge I wanted to stay, which in retrospect might have shown up discrepancies in cost. I just saw the Regency, thought the price for a single room is about right and didn't check whether rooms had bathrooms - it's years since I stayed in even a remote B&B without ensuite bathrooms. So if you don't like sharing your shower and toilet with strangers, this might be a place to avoid. Otherwise, it's good value compared to other places locally Read more

I had one overnight stay on Sunday. The Regency should be described as a B & B rather than a hotel. It was clean and easy to get to. I did not realise it was not en-suite but the bathroom was literally outside of my door and was immaculate so I have no complaints about that. Breakfast was basic continental but perfectly adequate. Thank you for your review, we are a Guest house not a hotel and I am sorry you were expecting a hotel. As we are a guest house we do not have 24hr reception.
As far as the blinds go, when renovating the rooms we felt they would look clean, smart and fresh but now we are coming into the summer months we are seeing that they don't keep out the morning light and we are currently having curtains made to go over the top of the blinds. Thank you for your comments, we are always looking to improve.
The hotel was nicely decorated and clean but we were surprised to find the rooms did not have an en-suite bathroom. Also the bed was a little too soft for our taste. Read more
Thank you for your review, we are a Guest house not a hotel and I am sorry you were expecting a hotel. We only saw one member of staff who was there to serve tea and coffee with breakfast. The check in was very simple but it did mean we didnt see anyone until the morning after we had stayed there. The price is great for cambridge though which was a bonus! Read more
I recently went on a trip to Cambridge University to learn some new techniques.
I stayed in room number 6 on the second floor of Regency guest house. A nice cosy single room with good facilities and right next door to the shower room and toilet.

We arrived to check-in at 2pm as arranged to find a note on the door telling us to self check-in using the front door access code sent to us by email –no email had been sent! Fortunately after about five minutes some other guests came out and we were able to gain access and find our room.

The room was nice enough, considering the cheap price. The bathroom was shared, but clean and of high quality. The breakfast was unfortunately served quite late (8-9), which was too late for me, and the Wi-Fi did not work when I was there. It was a fair bit cheaper than the alternatives though, so considering the price I think that it was ok. Read more
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We were not made aware that you needed an earlier breakfast, if you had told us then we could have made arrangements for you. We are sorry the WI-FI was not working while you stayed here. If we are told it is not working then we can re-set the router and it will work perfectly. We hope to see you again.
I picked the guesthouse as it is close to the centre of Cambridge whilst still being affordable. A lot of thought had gone into the details, both to make guests' stays comfortable and also to enable the guesthouse to be run in a streamlined way. Very comfortable bed and duvet, simple furniture, lack of clutter all positives. The fact that there was only one combined shower room and loo working on the night I stayed when all 8 rooms were occupied was a big negative. Read more

I stayed in room 4 on floor 2, which shares a small bathroom with a few other rooms. The room was clean and warm, but lacked details such as soaps etc which would have made the stay more comfortable. The bathroom was clean but poorly presented, the shower was warm, but had very poor water pressure.
The breakfast and breakfast room were lovely, and I was able to leave my bags there after checkout to collect later and freshen up. Overall, I am glad that I stayed there because of this facility. Read more
Thank you for your nice comments about our breakfast and aftercare service allowing you to leave your luggage and we take on board your comments on our shower room, we are refitting this shower room in the next few weeks to bring it up to the high standard of our other shared bathroom so our future guests will hopefully be more comfortable. With regards to refreshments in the room, we have breakfast tea and coffee but will consider adding fruit tea to our selection.
Thank you again for staying
Staying two nights, I was in town to start a new job and needed a place to stay until my flat was ready. The hotel was perfect, ideal location and very friendly. As we walked in the door of our room the first things we noticed was the broken washbasin facing the door. The whole surround had caved in, all the edging of the unit had come off and the basin itself was leaking into a towel underneath! Regency House is a small, independent, boutique hotel accommodating tourists, business people and academics. It is housed in a beautiful, five storey Victorian building and located in Cambridge city centre. Built in 1850, the hotel has the charming characteristics of a typical Victorian townhouse, with high ceilings and sash windows. There are ten stylish rooms split over four levels; most have a view of the historical 25 acre Parker’s Piece and two have balconies. The famous Cambridge University colleges are within a short walking distance - as is the River Cam and the city's museums, galleries, shops, pubs and restaurants. Regency House is a five minute walk from the bus station and fewer than ten minutes from the train station. In 2015, the hotel was fully refurbished with a contemporary colour scheme design from Farrow and Ball. The house has been transformed with new bathrooms, carpets, furniture and fittings. Wi-Fi runs as standard throughout the house and is free for all our guests. Every room has a flat screen TV, DAB radio, tea and coffee making facilities and comfortable mattresses with duck and down feather duvets and pillows. A continental breakfast is served in the basement: bread and croissants are freshly baked every morning and are enjoyed with a fresh pot of coffee. Regency House may not be suitable for guests with disabilities or mobility issues due to the rooms being spread out over five floors. Regency House does not have a night porter to assist guests with disabilities or mobility issues; guests must be able to evacuate themselves in an emergency. There are no vibrating pads or visual alarms at this property to alert guests with disabilities in the event of fire.
