Friendly hotel superbly situated for Scillonian Ferry

A friendly welcome and comfortable room awaited us. We also met the resident 3 legged cat Clyde who joined us for a short time. We didn't have to walk for from the ferry port. Read more

The view from the room and lovely breakfast. Our room was changed at the last minute and we were given a refund of the difference in price - commendable.

Although a comfortable room with a good view, being on the main road it was very noisy with traffic and people going by. If we hadn't been so tired we may not have been able to sleep.

''The Stanley ' as always , accomodating , friendly , relaxed and comfortable

Having to make last minute changes to my travel arrangements home from the Scillies Kate at the Stanley was so understanding and helpful. One of only a handful of establishments which offer overnight accomodation for travellers to the Isles of Scilly, I have always found

that the Stanley fits the bill in terms of friendliness and comfort and value for money. Read more

Lovely view but over priced

We stayed for just one night and even though the view over the bay is breathtaking, it does not take away from the fact that the room is in desperate need of refurbishing. Having said that though, the room and bathroom were clean and the bed comfortable. however the shower has little pressure and runs luke warm, we never saw the owner (were greeted by the young daughter and only saw another member of staff the next morning) and the breakfast was average. Overall not worth the amount we spent. Read more

Great friendly accommodation with seafront views

Our hosts were friendly and helpful, allowing us to check in early to drop some bags off while we completed our cycle ride. They accommodated our dietary requirements (coeliac) by providing gluten free bread for breakfast. Our room had great views of the seafront which was lovely to wake up to in the morning. Bikes were kept inside but needed moving before breakfast service started. Read more

The place to stay when in penzance

Accommodation taken from the Internet on spec. On first sighting the property looked right and well looked after. We were greeted on arrival by the owner who helped us with our luggage and showed us to the room. He was very welcoming in his demeanour and took time to explain what was on offer. Read more

Not what we expected

This was an overnight stay to enable us to cath the Scillonian the next morning. Read more

Response

Room 6 is the second largest room in the hotel easily accommodating families of up to four. At £75.00 on the seafront in Penzance this is an extremely competitive price. For larger rooms you would have to pay a considerably higher tariff. We are so sorry that you found your stay below par as we work hard to look after all our guests. Especially a rating of two out of five for breakfast is upsetting to us. Almost all our other guests thoroughly enjoy breakfast and have commented to that effect.

Likes?
The welcome was good and the beds comfortable.
Dislikes?
We felt the room was over-rated, being quite small though described as a family room. The en-suite again was small and cramped. Sadly, the cooked breakfast was poor - not at all tasty.

One night in order to get the ferry having arrived at the train station. Read more

Response

Good evening. I can only say we have had several hundred guests stay in Room 3 over the last two years and none of them have described the room as minute. In addition, the person in the room next door was an eighty year old lady and I would therefore assume not making all that much noise. In addition, none of the several hundred guests have described any of the walls at The Stanley, being a Victorian end terrace, as paper thin. I am sorry your stay inconvenienced you.

Regards,

J. Hamilton.

Not suitable for elderly people.

We were shocked to find we were right on the top floor in the attic and the stairs were too steep and narrow for us. My husband who uses a walking stick had to get both cases down the next day as I was too frightened to carry them down. The room looked lovely on first sight but we didn't manage to sleep as there was no room to sit up in bed because of the low roof space above and not much room in bed either. A shame really as the room had been done to a high standard. Read more

Response

Thank you for your comments. At The Stanley, we have five rooms on the first floor and four on the top floor. If, prior to arrival, we are alerted to the fact that a top floor room could cause problems we would always ensure you are allocated a room on the first floor. Kind regards, Kate at The Stanley.

Lovely house, stunning location.

Mum (81) and I stayed here for 2 nights (Mon/Tue) as part of our 8 night 900 mile road trip. I've got to say it's a lovely house in the most stunning location you'll ever find.

Granted, it's not compulsively obsessively clean as a couple of reviews seem to require, but it is however, clean and tidy, totally lived in and loved.

It's also got to be said that the attention to detail at breakfast is above top class.

Faulty Towers?

Turned up at the hotel on Wednesday night and was greeted by a gentleman who let us in and seemed very friendy. However after an inital conversation he wished us 'good night' and headed back to the office. I pointed out we had yet to actually check in and he apologised before heading to the office to check the reservations book. 20 minutes later we were still stood there with no sign of the gentleman returning. We rang the bell for attention and he returned only to say "oh your still here". Read more

Response

Dear Mark,

I am so sorry that your experinence at The Stanley was not at its best. It was my Father who checked you in as was fortunate to have tickets for The minack Theatre.
I just wish you had mentioned the cold tea and the non closing winddow, I could have so easily solved those problems.

Kind Regards,
Kate at The Stanley.

Great location. Right on the sea front with easy access to the coastline, swimming pool and town centre. A perfect place to explore Penzance from.
Dislikes?
After the farce that was the check-in a number of other things disappointed. The tea at breakfast was stone cold, the window in the room couldn't be closed and a false firealarm at 9:30am!!

Warm, friendly, efficient service.

Our stay was a one-night visit for a wedding. Suffice to stay that we have already recommended The Stanley to friends. The room was lovely, the service friendly and sincere, and with a view directly over the bay, the breakfast room made this stay perfect. Read more
