Comfortable accommodation, outstanding food, friendly service, wholly fulfilled our hopes

We came for a short break, unaware that the Wakes Fair was in town, so saw and heard how the other half lives! Nevertheless we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the service and food being of the best. Read more

The food was excellent. They well earned the title of gastro-pub.

A few niggles about the accommodation did not much detract from our satisfaction (I gave a 'snagging list' on the reverse of the feedback card I left with the staff, mainly to do with the plumbing.

Overall we had a good stay but would like to have had a better nights sleep as we had a long day ahead. Read more

We enjoyed the ambience in the bar and had a very nice meal in the evening within the bar area
Dislikes?
We did not sleep very much as, although the beds were very comfortable, the noise from the bar and outside kept us awake. We think double glazing in the room would be a good idea.

Friendly service

Comfortable bijou room convenient for looking around Melbourne and area. Would have been nice to have soap in en suite, but very clean room. The Saturday night revellers downstairs and outside were noisy so we couldn't have our window open, but we were so tired we slept in until 9.10am! Read more

Although there was a kettle and drinks there was only one milk sachet - could have asked for more I know. Small things like toiletries not supplied.

Lovely stay

Stayed for one night. Room was lovely, well decorated and clean. We had dinner and all three meals were excellent. Had drinks in the bar which the staff put on a tab for us. Pint of peroni was tremendous! In the morning we had the breakfast which was also good and well presented. All round enjoyable stay. Read more

Good stay, but would of been better if we'd been given the room we paid for!

I booked a room which stated it was a suite room which slept 4 people, ie 1 double bed and 2 singles. When we arrived we were told they didnt have any rooms like that in the hotel!!! We were given a room with 1 double bed and a sofa bed. Not very good for 3 men!! Read more

Lack of communication. Was told the next morning if we go out we have to let them know, could have ended up sleeping in the car if it hadn't have been for a barman clearing up. Not impressed.

Nicely refurbished small hotel with great restaurant

We stayed overnight in the top floor suite for our anniversary. This was a very large room with comfortable bed and sofa together with en suite and had been recently refurbished to a high standard. Bit of a hike with cases/bags up to the top floor but well worth it. Very good value for money compared to similar hotels. The meal in the restaurant was excellent and we enjoyed a nightcap in the lively bar. Only downside was that the bathroom was pretty chilly as the radiator wasn't working. Read more

Lovely spacious room with character. Comfortable bed. Nice furnishings. Great meal. Lively bar with good atmosphere. Attentive friendly staff. Good breakfast. Great value for money.
Dislikes?
Very chilly bathroom as small radiator wasn't working and wind was whistling in through the sash window. Could do with more efficient radiator and possibly secondary glazing on the bathroom window.
