A perfect place for a peaceful break

Kate and Nathan are the perfect hosts in their beautiful guest accommodation. A superb location for getting to a large number of Devon's attrao, excellent food and service. Tranquillity at its best in very clean and pleasant surroundings. We will certainly be going back for another stay. Read more

The friendliness of our hosts, the wonderful breakfasts that set you up for a day of exploration and the peace and tranquillity of the location.

The only thing I would add would be to offer the guests the choice of having a tv in their room if they wished. This is a minor point but would allow people a choice of what to do on a rainy day.

An Absolute Must if you are looking for the perfect stay in Devon

Stayed at Gages Mill for four nights to visit friends in Ashburton. Perfect location, 1 minute in to Ashburton, couple of minutes to Dartmoor, 5 minutes to Buckfastleigh, 30 seconds to the M5 which then takes you to Bovey Tracey, Torquay, Teingnmouth, Newtownabbot with little traveling, yet peaceful, idyllic and seems a world away from everywhere. Beautiful view from room, stunning location, beautiful Mill, delicious breakfast, warm, friendly, and relaxed. Wake up to the sounds of the Read more

Hi Alan and David - many thanks for taking the time to leave this lovely feedback. We have seen you since you left this - I'm afraid during July and August it all gets rather busy and guest reviews, much as we do appreciate them, don't always get responded to as quickly as we would like. So, better late than never, thank you again for your kind words, Nathan and I enjoyed meeting you both and would look forward to any planned return visit. Kindest regards Kate and Nathan.

I was in a Devon for a training course, Gages Mill attracted me for its location & had en suite rooms! It exceeded my expectations, the room was bright, immaculately clean and the matress brilliant quality. The linens are high quality silky cotton- perfect! Everything was high standard . Hi Chris, thanks for taking the time to write this review. We're glad your enjoyed your stay and that you would recommend us to friends. We accept your point about the bath and shower. Hi Matthew. Thanks for taking the time to write this review, we are both pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Reference the minor issue noted - as Gages Mill is a Grade 2 Listed building we were unable, when we replaced all of the bathrooms in 2010 and 2011, to do away with the saniflow units in three of the en-suite bathrooms. We replaced each unit with the best available on the market and, accordingly, they one run for one or two seconds per flush. We agree, it would be nice not to need them.

Dear Ann, both Nathan & I are genuinly saddened that you were not delighted by your stay with us in Gages Mill. We can only reply with 500 characters so bullet points I'm afraid. We market as having 'double' beds and not 'king size'. We had two guests with mobilty problems when you stayed; one had a recent knee operation and the other left this review - '5 out of 5 - Gages is a lovely peaceful place to stay. I have stayed there 5 times and it just gets better each time'. There are 2 staircases.

Dear Vanessa - many thanks for leaving this review of your stay. It was really nice to have met you and we're delighted that you had a great nights sleep with us. It would be great to see you back again. We hear what you say about the shower - on the plus side the water at Gages Mill comes from a well on the site (with appropriate UV treatment and filtration plant of course) and whilst it tastes great we do accept that it means that the showers are not as powerful as many modern power showers.

IF I had any single quibble, the shower was outdated and not much water pressure as some others but of tiny consequence as it would not deter me from staying there again.

Response

Hi Angela, thanks for providing this feedback. Though all rooms do have en-suite showers, only two have baths. Both rooms with baths were available when you stayed; had you raised this concern we would happily have swapped rooms. Gages Mill is, indeed, our home, we love it and we enjoy sharing it with our guests - this suits most visitors very well, feedback frequently referrs to a 'home from home' experience. We fully appreciate that everybody is different and respect what you have said.
