Kept away by slamming doors and drunks

Unfortunate that slamming doors and poor sound insulation kept us awake from 3-4am due to other guests who were drunk and kept popping out for cigarette breaks. Whilst main hotel may be nice, it's sister hotel is certainly a little shabby (peeling paint on bathroom ceiling!) And home comforts basic (coffee provided and towels but no shower gel, hairdryer or phone to contact staff in main building at 3am! Don't even know if there is a Porter to deal with emergencies). Breakfast adequate. Not awfu Read more

See above. Breakfast adequate. If looking for a quiet relaxing get away, would not recommend. Awful night-spent an hour sat in my car to get away from noise! Won't be coming back. Would like refund.

Beautiful comfortable big room

Stayed overnight B&B in this lovely town. Fantastic ensuite room, comfortable and quiet. Also felt very secure with access and H&S facilities. Ate in the evening - pizzas amazing, staff jolly and very attentive. Wonderful breakfast to set us up for travel the next day Read more

Spoil Yourself

We stayed in room 2 and were wowed by how lovely it was. The room had tasteful decor, was very roomy and a four poster bed. We stayed to attend a wedding nearby and the hotel were kind enough to ensure we had a room to use to change into our wedding attire prior to normal check in. Read more

When booking rooms at The Red Lion you expect to be accommodated at the Red Lion not another building down the road (The Globe Inn) where you are subsequently woken up every hour by the church bells!

Pretty good place for a short stay

Spent 2 nights whilst site seeing in the surrounding area, pleasant enough place, pretty village, spacious well decorated room, good quality modern bathroom. Food, poor to average and on Mon,Tue,Wed evenings Red Lion only place to eat for miles around!
Room cleaning standard needs improving, basics all done OK but dusty in more difficult to reach places. Terrace area is NOT as described and is in fact in a shocking state Read more

The only criticism I can make was about breakfast. The young lad that served us didn't really have a clue what he was doing but he was very polite.

Disappointed

Not what we thought we had booked. Small pokey cold room, no towels, no lampshade. Hardly room to move around the bed, hanging facilities were a hook on the back of the door. Very disappointed and had we not have been there for a wedding we would have left. Evening meal was sent back twice as undercooked and salad was served in a hot bowl. Read more

Good Pleasant Pub & Hotel

Response

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that the service in the restaurant was a little slow - I will check with the staff who were working that night to ascertain if there was a problem. Sometimes it may appear that others who are seated after you are served before you - very often they have pre-ordered and then only sit down to eat when their meal is ready. The electrics were checked the next day and the bulb blowing had tripped the electrics which can unfortunately happen anywhere.

Attractive room but facilities/attention to detail lacking

My boyfriend and I stayed at The Red Lion for two nights as I had some work to do nearby on one of the days. The Red Lion was one of a few B&B's I looked at with equally convenient locations. My main reason for choosing The Red Lion was the claim of good pizza and the look of the rooms - I paid more for the luxury of a large four-poster, however, as a business traveller I would never stay anywhere without wi-fi and was very disappointed to discover theirs didn't work! The room was spacious and attractive, as was the bathroom which had a very nice shower. The staff were friendly when we arrived and the pub downstairs seemed to be the heart of the village.

Free wi-fi promised which didn't work - real let down!! No special veggie breakfast. The blind in the bedroom was broken so very bright at night. White hairs on cushions. No non-allergenic bedding.
