A friendly and very comfortable to place to stay for a short break

A brief get-away - two nights - to revisit old haunts in Devon; hotel well-placed for that. Read more

Very easy to enjoy being there in rooms above the clearly popular bar below. Friendly service, with everything laid out well. One of the oldest building in town, its ceilings are low, but no problem.
Dislikes?
A coupel of minor things: the bedroom lighting seemed a bit gloomy, and the radiator in one room would not shut off making the night a bit overheated.

The twin beds were a nightmare, creaking with every movement and so uncomfortable. The door closers throughout the accommodation were worn out leading to constant banging of heavy doors. Avoid room 4.

Irritating points. Bathroom door would not close, shower broken. Alternative shower also not adequate. One good point was that they refunded our money.

Adequate for one night, useless shower

Adequate bedroom but old-fashioned decor. The shower was unusable as the hot water was scalding but if you tried to mix it with cold water then it was freezing. The water pressure was also very low. It meant that I had to settle for a wash in the sink. Luckily we were only staying for 1 night after a wedding so I could go home for a proper shower. Read more

Excellent Stay

With prior warning arrived late and was greeted warmly and shown to my room. It had been a long day and I was so ready for bed. Had an excellent night's sleep and woke up next morning totally refreshed. Breakfast looked great but I am not a great breakfast eater so had toast and jam which was plenty. Read more

Lovely room, could be noisy

The room itself was lovely with a nice bed and good en suite. We couldn't hear any noise from the pub itself. The only potential problem was that window opened onto an alley which had a small stream. If you like the sound of running water, this will delight you. There were other sounds from it though: people popping out for a cigarette, the faint sound of the TV from early morning risers etc. But overall this wasn't a problem for us. Read more

A Real Gem

The Exeter Inn was an ideal base for exploring the South Hams.A charming pub which serves good quality food and beer etc.Accommodation was to a very good standard and at the rear of the main part of the pub so was very quiet.Breakfast was really good quality with locally sourced meat.Nicky in particular was very friendly and helpful as well as working as a Trojan!I would certainly recommendthe Inn to my friends/relatives.
