The toilet had obviously not been cleaned for a long time. There was a stale turd in the bottom that had stained the bowl brown!

Experience not to be repeated

Room had very dated furnishings. The curtains in particular were very old and faded. The carpet needed replacing. The one bedside lamp that was provided didn't have a bulb that worked. The under bed storage was visible at the end of the bed which looked old and on opening was full of dust. The two minature milk containers provided tasted awful. We weren't asked what we would like for breakfast but had a full English one placed in front of us with the toast balancing off the edge of the plate! Read more

We were not expected !!!

When we arrived the landlord was not expecting us. Fortunately a room was available. We booked breakfast for both mornings but after poor service, quality and cheap ingredients we cancelled the second breakfast.
We paid for the second nights accommodation but I am not sure whether this was correct as your company may have deducted the second night on our credit card as well. Read more

Adequate for one night but lacking in attention to detail

We stayed one night as we needed an overnight stop. We had never visited Okehampton so were interested to see what it is like. The room was very small whilst the bathroom was disproportionately large. Heating pipes ran through the room so was very warm - room was over the extractor fan for the kitchen so noisy. Decor a little tired. Only one bedside light and this broke. Young man replaced lamp with one from another room. Very good food and atmosphere in the bar. Read more

Comfortable, value for money stop-over.

We used the Fountain Inn as an overnight stop from home to Cornwall. As we have a 13 year old son we used one of the family rooms which was more than adequate for our requirements.
We dined in the Cafe bar that evening and had a very enjoyable meal - which was again very good value for money with a very good choice (more than the usual "pub-grub" of everything with chips). We also had breakfast as part of the price of the stay and were very pleased with the selection Read more

Lovely old coach house with lots of character, quirky shaped rooms and cosy pub. Car-park at the back, handy -once we found it!
Dislikes?
Our room had a strange smell, obviously abit of a problem as there was a plug in air-freshner! The loo made a racket when flushed, but then the plumbing isn't really designed for such an old building.

It was an experience!

A sewage leak in one of our rooms necessitated a move to another room on a different floor so that we were separated from our daughter and grandson. The staff were helpful and friendly but the condition of the rooms on offer made their work harder. Read more

It has character and a vibrant location with an atmospheric bar as part of the premises. The staff are friendly and an effort has been made with the cooking, particularly the breakfasts.
Dislikes?
The rooms need deep cleaning and proper plumbing, also new decor and carpets. The impression is that the narrow bore plumbing gives regular problems as there are signs of previous overflows.

I would definitely stay there again

Whilst Oakehampton may not be the most fashionable palace in Devon, the Fountain Inn was definitely excellent value for money, comfortable, friendly and with excellent service. The evening bar meals were very good and the breakfast enormous. The beer was local and the pub was obviously popular with the locals.
