We booked a room at the Oak because it had good reviews and was situated in the middle of South Brent near to the centre of the village. The room we had was clean and well equipped with a reasonable sized bathroom. Read more
Glad you enjoyed your stay - the internet situation is difficult in an old building as the walls are so thick. Hopefully resolved tomorrow as fibre optic being installed (with access points due later this month - for some reason can't all be done together!) The window was a compromise with the neighbours who did want any windows overlooking their garden. I am sorry you feel the hot water is too hot - any lower and we find that when demand is high the huge tanks we have run out Thank you.

The staff were friendly and helpful from the outset, showing us to our room and explaining about access and the breakfast arrangements. We had an evening meal on Friday night which was really enjoyable and both of us enjoyed our stay. So much so, that we are looking at rebooking and coming back in November for my partner's birthday. The room was quiet and comfortable; the bar was cozy and had a lovely atmosphere. I would definitely recommend The Oak to others. Read more

A comfortable, attractive room with lots of nice, thoughtful little touches. The bathroom is brand new, with shelves in all the right places, plus great hot water and good quality towels. There's also wifi in the bedroom, decent cupboard space and enough hangers, and even a tray for your walking boots.

Regretfully this is the one room that can be affected by the noise outside. This is not up from the floor which is heavily soundproofed but via the large original sash windows. We have put heavy curtains up and usually noise is not a problem as we are generally a quiet pub where people come to socialise. Occasionally however we have an event that is louder than normal. Glad you had your ear plugs!

Apologies for the delay in replying - my computer will not allow me to see reviews and the web provider for this page has just managed to sort so that I can go online to read and reply. Glad you enjoyed the experience and I am sorry you felt the mattress was too hard. We have put memory foam mattresses in all our double rooms so I am surprised that you found it too hard - I chose the ones that are supposed to be best for backs as recommended by the experts.

Glad you enjoyed - we are gradually replacing all the mattresses with memory foam but this takes time and money - most of the rooms have now been changed but as these mattresses are less than 18 months old they will be last to be changed - expect them to be changed in the next three months.

It is very refreshing to encounter a place that lives up to it's advertising. The Oak is the result of the hard work put in by it's owners, Carol & Andrew. Every aspect of it exceeds expectation, from the plush decoration of the rooms to the immaculate presentation and cleanliness. Andrew is clearly a talented chef and this shows in the quality of his food. The overall attention to detail is what makes this head & shoulders above any other Inn we have stayed in. Read more

We are very sorry you felt the experience was impersonal - I did apologise about the toast as I had got caught up with a couple of phone calls but it was my fault I should have let the 'phone ring to pop the toast out to you or at least let you know what was happening. I will look into the al la carte menu as these should have all been updated - We are sorry your experience wasn't perfect as we do try as you can see from our reviews overall.
It was a one night stay to visit friends. The room was very nice and very clean and a good match for what we needed. Both the 10.30am check out time and 9.30am end of breakfast seemed a little early compared with most other places I have stayed and perhaps a little unnecessarily constraining. My only real criticism is that the B&B side of things feels like an after-thought to generate money rather than a business venture that the owners are passionate about. They seem happiest behind the bar. Read more
Sorry for the delay replying - I have just found out how to do so. I am sorry you felt that you were imposing - this is a pub and we work extremely long hours, we love our work but sometimes the lack of sleep catches up with us. We can usually tell which guests just want their own company and which would enjoy a chat - sometimes we get this wrong -possibly because of the tiredness and for that I am sorry - if you check all our reviews you will see that we are not perfect but we do try our best.

This was a short stay for a wedding and we didn't spend a long time in the hotel. The room was well funished and of a good size and the bathroom was well equipped. Nothing wrong with the place.probably a touch expensive for what it is. The food was pricy and the quality was iffy, having said that when the fish was sent back (it was rank) it was changed without a problem. Service was adequate but a little distant. Read more
Occasionally things go wrong and all we can do is try to rectify the problem. Yes, the fish was not up to our usual standard but we did try to put things right. However, some of the other comments are, we feel, unfair. Unfortunately, when something is not right it is human nature to 'look' for other problems. Please read our other reviews and make up your own mind about the usual standard of what we provide. This is a family business and we are human too, but that is also part of the charm.

Very good quality bed and breakfast pub. Clean, functional room, the bathroom was like new which is an important point for us as there's nothing worse than a grubby looking bathroom. The external aspect of The Royal Oak belies the ambience of the bar and the high quality and cleanliness of the rooms. The owners did everything possible to make our stay a real pleasure. There are many special offers available and folk music on some evenings. The very reasonably priced food was excellently cooked and presented and the beers were excellent too, as the pub has CAMRA accreditation. Best of all - no TVs in the bar! Read more
Following our refurbishment completed in July 2008, we now have 5 ensuite, sound insulated bedrooms, of which 3 are double and 2 are twin. All our rooms are furnished to a high standard with solid pine furniture, tastefully decorated with neutral carpets, yet each is individually finished by Carol with it's own unique colour scheme, brought together with the thoughtful co-ordination of the soft furnishings. Originally inspected by the English Tourist Council we are very pleased to have been awarded 4 stars for the standard of our establishment. We have also been awarded a silver award making us one of the top inns in the South West. We are no longer a part of the English Tourist Board but work hard to maintain the same level. You can be assured of a restful and relaxing stay with us. We hope we have thought of everything needed to make your stay as comfortable as possible, there are hair dryers, alarm clocks, digital TV's, fans, tea & coffee making facilities and many other thoughtful additions. Fibre optic wifi is available in the main bar area. All the rooms are located on the first floor and are sound insulated to keep any noise from the rest of the building to an absolute minimum. Indeed, even with our extrovert quiz master on the microphone (quizzes are held on the first Thursday of each month) we are assured that our guests rest has been undisturbed! We are able to add a single bed or cot in most of our rooms (the exception being our double en suite because of the room layout) A bed costs £20 per night including bedding, towels and breakfast whilst the travel cot is £10 to hire (no bedding)
