Value stay for work trip

The Hotel was exactly as I expected it to be, given the information I had. My room was small but very clean and with a very comfortable bed. Although I was on the front of the building, the nature of the side road that the hotel is on meant that I enjoyed a good night's sleep. My optional breakfast was very tasty and well worth the extra expenditure. Read more

Great spot for a short break away

When we arrived, we had a parking space right in front of the door. Checking in was quick and we were shown to our room after booking breakfast. The room had a double bed, wardrobe, kettle, Freeview TV and small en-suite. We then walked down into town (15 mins down and 20 up) past a bowling alley (which had a 2-for-1 deal with the B&B) and some restaurants. We also went to the Living Coasts marine zoo and bought a combined saver ticket for Paignton Zoo, which was well worth the drive. Read more

When I was ill, Jason (the proprietor) was helpful enough to provide plates and cutlery to eat the food we’d had to take away from the restaurant. He was overall very helpful and friendly.
Dislikes?
The walk into Torquay, being down a long hill, wasn't fun on the way back and there were a lot of stairs to cover between our room on the top floor and the breakfast room in the basement.

Sleepless

The room and facilities were adequate but I could not sleep due to noise. The walls are thin and my neighbour was coughing most of the night. The second night was worse with the owner, or members of his family having a loud meal at 4 AM !!!!! Very inconsiderate. Read more

Response

I am sorry you did not have a restful sleep due to other guests. We are sorry your neighbouring guest disturbed your sleep but we have no control over our guests in the privacy of their own room. I am not aware of any of the family being up at 4am having a meal and certainly would not have been making any undue noise. There were other guests booked in at the time but as we live on the premises we were not disturbed by any noisy guests at this time in the morning.

Great location, excellent, clean room.. Superb value for money!

The Clifton Grove Hotel is set in a great location, just 10 minutes stroll from the harbour, town and nearest beach.
The room we stayed in was a Family en-suite, very clean, spacious and perfect for a 2 night stay. The hotel manager Jason was extremely accommodating and helpful and provided us with discount vouchers for local attractions (zoo, bowling alley) which we were ever so grateful for.

all you need at a good price!

i stayed here with my son for one night when we were going to a show. i chose it initially because it was a good price and convenient for torquay.
the room was nice enough with all the facilities we would need, i.e. hairdryer, iron and board, tea and coffee making facilities and so on.
the guest house also has a comfortable lounge, a pool table (which we didnt have time to use)and a bar (which we did use).
Although we were only in torquay for one night, I would return for a longer stay. Read more

Comfortable and quite, friendly staff

For an overnight stay Clifton Grove offered ideal and well priced accomodation, the room was clean and tidy and we received a warm welcome on arrival. The staff were pleasant throughout. The room was comfortable, the en-suite was functional if a little small. The hotel is located in a quite spot, free from constant traffic noise and we manage to park off road at the front of the hotel at all times. Breakfast was hot and well cooked although we would have prefered a choice of brown or white toast Read more
