I needed accommodation close to a particular business venue. The Old House fitted the bill nicely. On arrival I received a warm and friendly greeting and I found that my room had been upgraded at no further cost. The room was neat and tidy, the en-suite bathroom was spotless and modern. The Old House is within easy walk of a surprising number of food outlets so obtaining an evening meal was no problem. I slept well. Breakfast was freshly cooked and appetising. All in all a nice stay. Read more
Thank you for your comments, a home from home is exactly what we try to offer.
Bed and breakfast facilities in an olde world setting. The Road is very busy with traffic and I didn't sleep well at night as windows are only single glazed. There was no bar/lounge facilities, hence there was nothing to do in the evening in the accomodation and they didn't have television in their lounge area. Lots of hot water for baths and the bedroom was very clean.
Paid for 4 breakfasts, however I had an early flight on my 4th morning and was not offered any packed food instead. Read more
We always take note of our guests comments but would like to point out that our sash windows have been recondtioned to avoid double glazing which would detract from the special features of our historic house. Guests use our lounge as an area to sit and read or meet up and chat. A tray breakfast is always available for guests making an early departure.
Satisfied my requirement Read more
We arrived a bit earlier than the 12pm check in but that wasn't a problem, the staff were really friendly and helpful, even booking a cab for us to go to the wedding round the corner. The on suite was simple but modern and had everything we needed. In the morning a bit worse for wear we had a full English breakfast which was very nice and included in the price. Only thing that would have been better was if their was coffee and water in the dining room but otherwise an excellent stay Read more

We stayed for one night. We stayed in the ground floor pine room which was beautifully furnished with a fabulous and comfortable four poster bed. Breakfast was delightful, we both opted for the English Breakfast - not a spot of grease in sight, not overloaded, perfect portion size to keep one well going for a late lunch! Read more

Very pleasant. Easy to find and ample car parking. Service was very friendly from the start - clearly a family run business who treat their guests like family. The rooms were original decor which was very quaint, but the bathrooms were brand new and modern. No baths, just showers but we didn't mind for one night. The breakfast was lovely - unlimited tea and toast and the full English was spot on. Value for money is superb. Would definitely stay there again. Read more

We informed the hotel that we needed to check out early the following day as we had a bike ride to go to, so would not be needing breakfast. Nice little house on the side of a quiet road. Was greeted well eventhough I arrived an hour early and I was put into my room straightaway. The room has a nice little country feel to it. Had a comfortable double bed and a sink in my room. The kettle and brew kit wasn't minging and I had my bathroom across the hall. All of these were of very good hygienic standard. Breakfast in the morning was great since I had a massive hangover from the wedding. Would definitely recommend it. Value for money!!! Read more

I booked The Old House as the overnight stop for Braintree after a section of a charity walk I was taking. I received a warm & friendly welcome from Sue the owner. I was immediately made to feel unwelcome. I arrived on time, or just before specified time and was rushed to the cottage. We have never had our breakfasts described as meagre before! There is a wide choice with up to four courses available if wanted. Was close to the venue, rooms were a good size. Disappointed with the money that I paid for a room with private bathroom when it was not private at all. Would use again if I went to a wedding at the Fennes. Staff were friendly, Bathroom could be updated but old features in the house were very welcoming. Read more
We do not like any of our guests to leave disappointed. Our one room with a private bathroom means that the bathroom is not attached to the room but is down the corridor and is for sole use of guests of that one room hence the price is less than a room with en suite which would have the bathroom attached to the bedroom.
