The Starr back as it should be

We had a one night stay at Fulton’s Stables, formally the Starr. Food and service excellent, we returned after a poor stay under the last management and were pleased to find the hotel now back as it should be, well done the Fulton’s Management. Read more

Good, but not the hotel I booked

I booked into The legendary Starr Inn on Star Street, Great Dunmow for a one night stay. When I arrived, I was greeted by a sign saying 'Fulton's Chop House and Stables'. The name had changed seven weeks before my arrival, but to date, it is still called The Starr Inn on virtually all sites. I telephoned to book a table for dinner and the manager failed to tell me of the change. Read more

Fantastic Food - Lovely people

Our room was perfect; warm, cosy, clean and very comfortable. It was absolutely great to be able to come and go without disturbing anyone, as the rooms are in a separate annex from The Starr, and guests receive their own entrance key.

Lovely hotel, large room, friendly staff but needs a little attention to the rooms

A group of 6 of us stayed on Saturday night, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the hotel is great. The room we stayed in was very large for a hotel room and had some lovely touches, it needed a bit of tlc with things like some minor water damage on the ceiling and some new grouting around the bath. Breakfast is from 8.30 onwards so if you have an early start like I did you will be out of luck. However my friends said breakfast was very good. We would go again. Read more

Far Too expensive for what it was including Dinner and Accomodation

We have known the Starr and its owners for many years and have eaten there in the past. However the cost of the evening meal was not reflected in the quality or the standard that the price commands. The Bedroom although clean was small and dark. Several light bulbs needed renewing. The plug in the sink was faulty. As the television stations were extremely limited we tried to use the radio which did not work. In our opinion it needs to be updated to warrant the prices that you are charging. Read more

An excellent hotel experience

A friend and I meet up a couple of times a year at venues around the country for a meal and overnight stay.

The Starr Inn is an independently run establishment with a relatively small number of rooms associated with a first-class restaurant.
