I have stayed for 4.consecutive nights. The setting us lovely and peaceful. I have found the food and service to be very good. Staff are friendly and welcoming. As I am here on business and travelling alone it is good to find somewhere that is comfortable to sit alone. The pub is well supported by locals and has a nice buzz in the evenings. I plan to stay here again shortly. Read more

We were upgraded as our original room had plumbing issues. Although the room was smart and clean, the bathroom was not very clean. Superficial surfaces were clean but the bath was actually quite grimy. Also a little odd these days to have an expensive room a proper shower in which you can stand up. This was an over the bath shower but you had to sit in the bath. We were upgraded to the junior suite but we were glad we hadn't paid extra for the suite as we would've been disappointed Read more
Overnight stay before meeting up with some friends locally. This is a lovely location in a quiet and pretty village. A short break and attend a wedding Reception was very unfriendly, breakfast on the Saturday was shared with a number of dead beetles and the night before food. Food that came out was good but Sundays just average. No hair dryer in the room tea and coffee not replaced for our whole stay. hallways and public areas very dirty. The whole place needs some love and care as it was all very tired. We have stayed in better hotels for far less money. Read more

We stayed at the Cricketers for two nights as we were attending a wedding down the road at Parklands. We stayed for one night prior to an early flight from Stansted. The pub is a 15 minute drive from the airport and we thought it would be more relaxing than one of the airport hotels. Was looking forward to staying over as was in a close proximity to where I needed for my hockey match in Newport. Website had great photos and looked nice and warm. Just my taste for style especially with superking size bed and raving reviews on trip advisor. Although when first entered the room my world sunk it was complete opposite. When we went for breakfast, all the tables were either occupied or had dirty plates from other people on them. Finally a table was cleared for us but we had no plates, cutlery, cups, glasses. We waited for 15 minutes and asked for a table setting twice so that we could get something from the buffet but to no avail. Eventually we asked the next table if we could use their glasses. During this time, the waitress served one plate of food and took two orders. Eventually we left hungry. Read more

The Cricketers Arms in Rickling Green is a beautiful country pub with rooms on the doorstep of the rolling Essex countryside. It’s halfway between Bishops Stortford & Saffron Walden, & only 12 minutes from Stansted Airport. Set in a wonderful warm red brick building overlooking the expanse of the green & the historic cricket ground, the pub’s the perfect place for a stop-off en route to or from the airport, a short break in the countryside or if you’re in the area visiting friends or attending a wedding. Step foot through the door and you’ll find a cosy low-ceilinged oak beamed bar with a roaring log fire & lots of comfy spots to enjoy a beer or glass of wine, a stylish restaurant serving great quality freshly cooked food, and pretty views over the green. Hot food is served all day & on the menu is a wide choice of freshly cooked seasonal food - much of it sourced locally - & a particularly good English breakfast to set you up for the day. There are real ales & a thoughtfully chosen wine list with plenty of wines & Champagnes to enjoy by the bottle or glass. The service is warm & friendly. Upstairs, there are ten individually designed bedrooms all with en suite facilities. Some are modern with contemporary furnishings & others more traditional with antique pieces. All have comfortable king or super king size beds, with good linen & luxurious throws, as well as powerful showers, fluffy white towels, complementary toiletries, hairdryer & tea and coffee making facilities. There is digital flat screen television, free Wi-Fi in every room & free internet access throughout the pub.
