Fit the purpose

Overnight stay after attending a party, friends also stayed. When I saw our friends room vs ours and for the same price I was disappointed with the difference. There's was a lot larger both bedroom and particularly ensuite so more comfortable. There was a foot between the bottom of the bed and wall and you had to go careful not to hit your head on the tv when shuffling past to get to the other side. People very friendly. Would recommend only with caveat Read more

Quaintness of the venue. It was an ok stay that fit the purpose.
Dislikes?
Unfortunately our room was on the main road so there was quite a lot of traffic noise from very early morning, which woke me up. bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were lumpy - no sleep.

Reasonable stay, but too pricey

Romsey is pricey for accommodation so we chose this hotel because it was more competitively priced. The building is listed so expect the narrow corridors and sloping floors. Our room was small, clean & recently decorated, but the en-suite was narrow, had no surfaces (to place things) & the shower head did not attach to the holder (broken). We nearly went without breakfast because the chef had left early, but this was redeemed by the manager & friendly waiter who rolled their sleeves up. Read more

Likes?
Proximity/walking distance to function we were attending & tea/coffee making facilities in room were very handy. Parking also very useful.
Dislikes?
Bathroom & shower would benefit from a shelf to place items. Grubby looking shower mat - far too big for the tiny bathroom. Floor needs redoing to stop the sloping which makes you feel seasick.

Adequate rooms but very good breakfast

I chose to stay as I was attending a retirement party for a colleague and we were booked into Berties Restaurant for a meal. Whilst the room was adequate, nocturnal popping noises (from pipework?) were very noticeable as was traffic noise from the single glazed windows. Our meal in the Restaurant was excellent (we pre-ordered our food), and the staff were very helpful. Breakfast was simple, but very good. Read more

Superb staff who go the extra mile, clean rooms and good food in the heart of Romsey

This is a restaurant with rooms, not a hotel, so it's not the place to come expecting luxury. But it's definitely the place for clean rooms, incredibly friendly and helpful staff and a great location, right in Romsey, where it can be hard to find somewhere to stay. Read more

It is a 'Restaurant with Rooms', not an Hotel

We were delighted to discover that this establishment is exactly what it claims to be, "a restaurant with rooms" On a walking holiday you want excellent food, a decent bathroom, comfortable beds, friendly service and an informal atmosphere. Bertie's provided us with just that. Read more

Ok. Rooms look nice.

Bed smelt stale even though sheets were clean. We were out at least 8 hrs and when we came back from visiting relatives, keys were in our door even though we had our keys!!? Very upset. Manager explained he was just looking for extra pillows, but to leave it in the door for other guest to just walk in and steal whatever they want was a bit too much for me. Who knows how many hours those keys were actually there? Luckily nothing was missing. Other guests smokin out of windows!!!!!! Read more

Not value for money

. Staff very friendly and helpful, but for the price, the room was a joke. Room just adequate for one person, but smaller than a New York room for 2! The worst aspect was the bathroom. Black mould in the grouting, peeling woodchip wallpaper, leaving patches of bare wall. The carpet in the room was also very worn and in need of a good clean. Breakfast was fine , with friendly service. I appreciate that this is a restaurant with rooms, rather than a hotel but that does not excuse poor upkeep. Read more

A lovey family room and friendly staff

We visited Romsey for a family party and were looking for a room nearby that would cater for the four of us. This was perfect as it had 2 rooms with a tv in each. Normally you are crammed into the one room with sofa beds for the kids but this was really spacious with proper beds for all. Read more

Adequate for a brief overnight stay in Romsey,

Overnight for a friend's wedding party. Needed somewhere close by after a long journey, at reasonable price. Fitted the spec, just. Bit basic.
