Local produce is used wherever possible. We encourage all guests to take advantage of the extensive Southern Vectis bus network that operates from all ports and terminates in Newport. Newport is no more than 14 miles from any point on the Isle of Wight. Sustainable travel is a priority. The island boasts a magnificent coastline and glorious rolling countryside so Cycling and Walking are some of the pleasures of staying on the island. The Isle of Wight Festival is an easy walk away . The Island is home to many remarkable buildings; Carisbrooke Castle - George I's prison, Osborne House - Queen Victoria's favourite home and where she died. Ancient sites such as Newport and Brading Roman Villas, The Needles Old Battery & Lighthouse are just a few of the fun places to visit. Newport has two elegant squares with town houses dating from Georgian and Victorian times. Historic buildings include the tiny Apollo Theatre in Pyle Street and the internationally famous Quay Arts Centre located on the Medina estuary next door.

One Holyrood Hotel

The owners of One Holyrood have been holidaying in Newport since the Steam Train terminated in the Town. They would take the train from London, the Ferry from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier and then the steam train to Newport. In 2013, two Grade II listed buildings that are now part of One Holyrood were derelict and for sale. Keen to save the properties from total dereliction and looking for a suitable use Richard Holden, of Holden Harper Architects, bought 1 & 2 Holyrood Street and began the task of renovating, restoring and converting the buildings into a small Bed and Breakfast. To say there were restoration challenges is to understate the issue. One Holyrood opened for business in April 2014 and has never looked back. In 2019 Nos. 3 & 4 were purchased adding 5 beautifully decorated en-suite rooms, a larger dining room, bigger garden and better kitchen. In 2020 the old Tool Shed was renovated and now provides an area for private events. The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is still a highlight for any visit to the Island but sadly no longer terminates in Newport. A thrilling and often nail-biting bus journey from Ryde Railway station has taken its place.
