Lovely luxury with a touch of TV glamour!

A wonderful destination in the lovely town of Sandwich and a great opportunity to see the setting for one of our favourite programmes and favourite characters. Very friendly and helpful staff (all very young and no apparent Manager) Sadly the hosts were away. There are beautiful gardens, a small shop and tea room. We stayed just the one night and ate in the restaurant, which was very well coordinated, although the menu was a little limited in its choices. Breakfast was fantastic though. Read more

Unusual but fantastically enjoyable.

We stayed for one night in St. George's room. We had drinks before dinner in the sitting room and returned there after dinner at The King's head. We had breakfast at 9am spent the day in Canterbury then came back to The Salutation to meet friends we'd made there the previous evening for a drink. Read more

Came here and got engaged!

I chose The Salutation because I wanted somewhere exclusive and unique to propose to my girlfriend, and this seemed the perfect choice. Also we love Steph and Dom on Gogglebox - we've often joked that they're what we'll be like in 15 or 20 years time. A little disappointed they were on holiday, but you can't have everything and Tigger and the rest of the staff went above and beyond to look after us in their absence. Read more

More shabby than chic

I booked The Salutation for 2 nights for my husbands birthday. We had obviously seen Dom & Steph on TV, but also booked it for the building/gardens. It was a bit of trip down memory lane for me having spent many summers days on the beaches around the area. Read more

The building & gardens are magnificent. Sandwich is a gorgeous little town with lots of history. We were lucky to enjoy the food festival on the weekend we visited. Tigger & Maddy were great hosts.

lots of laughs

We loved The Salutation and Sandwich. Steph and Dom are a hoot, very friendly and welcoming. Tigger was great, he went out of his way to make us have a good time in this beautiful Edwin Lutyens house. The staff, from waiters, gardeners and housekeepers were so friendly, a great team. A lovely one night break from London in a beautiful countryside idyl.

We arrived at two for check in. Had a walk round the stunning grounds, enjoyed the massive bath and napping in the 7ft bed after enjoying a few tots from the complementary whisky and sherry decanters in the room. Then had a hearty dinner in the George and Dragon. Slept well in our quiet room then enjoyed a delicious perfectly cooked full english served by lovely staff. A perfect trip for our anniversary. Over hyped & over priced!

Entrance hall had a hole in the ceiling (which they automatically offered us a small rebate). Tea making facilities were the cheapest possible. Magazines left out were for effect as were up to 10 years out of date. Room layout needs work as plugs were too far from where you need them for hair dryer, etc. Decor was tired. Windows didn't open properly. Only 5 hangers in the wardrobe. TV was smallest & cheapest available. WiFi didn't work. Overall, nowhere near worth the cost! Very disappointing! Read more

Friendly, warm atmosphere from hosts, staff and fellow guests.

Clean, extremely comfy bed and the rest of the Knightrider house was gorgeous and very warm! The staff were lovely and also extremely sociable. I think it was extremely good of Steph to be available on what must be getting very tedious for her to be constantly entertaining guests and she makes such a good effort. The breakfast was also excellent. Overall we had a fabulous stay. The room is a tiny bit pricy for the size and we thought we would have our own bathroom. Read more

Settled into the room then went over to the main house & were warmly welcomed by all the other guests & Dom who were enjoying a drink in the gogglebox room. The whole group got along very well indeed and the day progressed into the evening when we were also joined by Steph, everything we could have wished for. A beautiful breakfast was served each morning. Highly recommended if you are a Gogglebox fan. Read more

An experience

Charming building and accommodation, nice location close to amenities/town centre and walks. Great fun meeting Dom and Steph. Our cottage was a good choice for sharing with friends, as meant we were able to relax and chat in our private lounge. It was nice to mingle with other guests over pre-dinner drinks. We were pleasantly surprised that dinner was offered, which we accepted, and after dinner were joined by Steph and Dom. They made everyone feel so relaxed and were perfect company. Marvelous!! Superb Room, Great Food, Stunning location and BAFTA winning hosts!

We stayed for a single night on a Friday evening. We were checked in promptly, offered a newspaper for the morning and asked a time for breakfast. We were then helped to our room with our bags and changed. We sat in the residents lounge before exploring the stunning gardens prior to eating a great meal in the dining room. Fantastic, had a lovely time, everyone was so friendly the property and gardens were breath taking

Basically booked a night at The Salutation as a suprise for my girlfriends 30th birthday. We travelled down from Sudbury in Suffolk, stopped off for a couple of days in London so my girlfriend could pay her sister a visit and to do a bit of shopping and then headed down to Sandwich in Kent. We had seen the Salutation on TV programmes "four in a bed" and "Googlebox" and instantly fell in love with the b&b and with Steph and Dom and we had always liked the idea of staying there with them. Beautiful accommodation with stunning gardens all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

We were originally going to stay at 'The Salutation' for one night with our 12 year old son but once we arrived we decided to extend our visit as the standard of accommodation and environment was so good we felt we needed a little longer. We stayed for 2 nights in Henry. The room was gorgeous with lovely views of the garden. The room and bathroom were luxurious. The bed was more comfortable than my own with crisp linen sheets. We were welcomed as soon as we opened our car doors. No more than a minute later we were greeted by Dom, who checked us in, gave us a tour, some information about the area and showed us to our room. The room was beautiful. The view was surreal. Welcome into a grand and beautiful house

We arrived late for a visit curtailed to only one night by the hassles of everything else. We were hours late due to motorway congestion. We were immediately invited into the drawing room for drinks with the owner and made terrifically welcome, which continued until we left the next morning in a far more relaxed frame of mind.

Quintessentially perfect to the book, and quite simply; brilliant.

It would be fictitious to attempt reason in our visit beyond that of fanatics of Gogglebox, and in doing so detract away from what was a special overnight experience. We had a salubrious time at The Salutation!

Had high expectations after seeing Four in a Bed. The Salutation was fantastic. Dom was very welcoming. The village of Sandwich is tiny (nothing to do there but drink!). Beautiful bedrooms. Superb beds. Spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast. Drinks cabinet in the drawing room was overflowing. Drank peacefully by the fireside with Dom and this was the highlight as he was great craic. Not as good as expected.

Lock on door difficult. Dangerous step between bedroom and living area where a glass coffee table could create a hazard. No shelves in bathroom. It was impossible to use the shower without soaking the carpet and curtains. Lock fell off bathroom window.
Took 45 minutes to serve breakfast after placing order, this was after we were requested to have breakfast late (10am) as they were busy. Read more

Opulant Elegant Short Break

We had the most wonderful sophisticated stay at this most elegant of homes. You enter the gate to this spectacular house and you feel an element of total seclusion. We were lucky to stay in the main house room Henry - would totally recommend it. The room is stunning, the view from each window is of the spectacular gardens. What a B&B!

Welcomed by name on arrival. Was given a thorough tour of our property for three days, two nights. This was the Gardner’s Cottage, a three bedroom house that is let exclusively whether one bedroom is to be occupied or all three. Top quality for a B&B. Bumped into the owner when unloading the car. Had a good chat and felt very welcome. This really was a home from home. Although price is at the top end. It was worth every hard earned penny. House was clean. A relaxed, friendly feeling in a beautiful house with a magnificent garden.

We were met on arrival by Dominic who greeted us by name. He, like the other staff were friendly and most helpful. The accommodation in Nightrider House was just that: a home with shared sitting room and well-appointed kitchen. The recommended pub supper (a gentle 3 minutes walk away) was excellent. The bed was very comfortable and, although facing onto the street, very quiet at night. An excellent breakfast preceded a lieusurely walk around the most beautiful gardens. Read more

Hi Andrew, delighted you enjoyed your stay. If it was not made clear at the time, we NEVER allow anyone to share a bathroom, so it was always private to your room. Description

Originally named after an inn that stood within the grounds, the main house is supported by Knightrider House, The Coach House and Gardener's Cottage. Having been hidden and neglected for over a decade, there has been a considerable renovation programme carried out on both the house and its gardens which are now open to the public. Set within the town and adjacent to the River Stour, surrounded by three-and-a-half acres of delightful Lutyens and Jekyll gardens and almost entirely encircled by the old city walls of Sandwich, the house is afforded a remarkable level of privacy. Accommodation within reflects the integrity of the house and gardens with unmatched decadence and a truly world class feel to each room. Like a fine claret leaving you with a rounded after-taste, our rooms are tailored for the connoisseur.

The Salutation is Grade 1 Listed. All Accommodation is accessed by the use of stairs only.
