Sandwich is a lovely town and The Salutation is a charming property and as soon as we had arrived we knew it was going to be a fab weekend. Arrived at 6pm and unprofessional and disorganised first impression of manager. Unhappy to find that our room was not in the main house. Also, not ensuite which is not clear from description given on website. Only one dressing gown despite twin room. No tea making facilities in room. Advised could use kitchen 2 floors down which had 1 mug and 3 old cups. Breakfast average. Quiet, uncomfortable atmosphere. Nobody around in reception to check out with so just left key. Read more
Fun, lively, great surroundings. The salutation was an amazing spot, and Sandwich itself exceeding all of our expectations with its charm and beauty. A wonderful destination in the lovely town of Sandwich and a great opportunity to see the setting for one of our favourite programmes and favourite characters. Very friendly and helpful staff (all very young and no apparent Manager) Sadly the hosts were away. There are beautiful gardens, a small shop and tea room. We stayed just the one night and ate in the restaurant, which was very well coordinated, although the menu was a little limited in its choices. Breakfast was fantastic though. Read more

I chose The Salutation because I wanted somewhere exclusive and unique to propose to my girlfriend, and this seemed the perfect choice. Also we love Steph and Dom on Gogglebox - we've often joked that they're what we'll be like in 15 or 20 years time. A little disappointed they were on holiday, but you can't have everything and Tigger and the rest of the staff went above and beyond to look after us in their absence. Read more

Entrance hall had a hole in the ceiling (which they automatically offered us a small rebate). Tea making facilities were the cheapest possible. Magazines left out were for effect as were up to 10 years out of date. Room layout needs work as plugs were too far from where you need them for hair dryer, etc. Decor was tired. Windows didn't open properly. Only 5 hangers in the wardrobe. TV was smallest & cheapest available. WiFi didn't work. Overall, nowhere near worth the cost! Very disappointing! Read more
Clean, extremely comfy bed and the rest of the Knightrider house was gorgeous and very warm! The staff were lovely and also extremely sociable. I think it was extremely good of Steph to be available on what must be getting very tedious for her to be constantly entertaining guests and she makes such a good effort. The breakfast was also excellent. Overall we had a fabulous stay. The room is a tiny bit pricy for the size and we thought we would have our own bathroom. Read more

The house and grounds are stunning and have the "wow" factor! The staff are very professional and the atmosphere is excellent. The Salutation has a high quality feel yet it is very welcoming and relaxing.

The Salutation is now famous more for the couple that own it than anything else and I presume it's why most people visit. BUT be prepared to be disappointed. I booked Gardeners Cottage for my family to stay and celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday. They proceeded to stay with us chatting and drinking and we were delighted to be able to toast Dom a happy 50th birthday at midnight with them both. A thoroughly enjoyable and definitely to be repeated experience. The main house and cottages have been decorated extremely well and you are made to feel very at home by the owners and staff. Our room overlooked the stunning private gardens and the bed was sooo comfortable. We arrived to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary on Staurdsy 31 May 2014. We were met by the Salutaton new manager, who was so nice and accommodating. The room was excellent, only one comment that the shower screen had a hole in the side that should accommodate a shelf but otherwise absolutely loveley. We were pleasantly surprised that dinner was offered, which we accepted, and after dinner were joined by Steph and Dom. They made everyone feel so relaxed and were perfect company. Marvelous!! Basically booked a night at The Salutation as a suprise for my girlfriends 30th birthday. We travelled down from Sudbury in Suffolk, stopped off for a couple of days in London so my girlfriend could pay her sister a visit and to do a bit of shopping and then headed down to Sandwich in Kent. We had seen the Salutation on TV programmes "four in a bed" and "Googlebox" and instantly fell in love with the b&b and with Steph and Dom and we had always liked the idea of staying there with them. It would be fictitious to attempt reason in our visit beyond that of fanatics of Gogglebox, and in doing so detract away from what was a special overnight experience. Originally named after an inn that stood within the grounds, the main house is supported by Knightrider House, The Coach House and Gardener's Cottage. Having been hidden and neglected for over a decade, there has been a considerable renovation programme carried out on both the house and its gardens which are now open to the public. Set within the town and adjacent to the River Stour, surrounded by three-and-a-half acres of delightful Lutyens and Jekyll gardens and almost entirely encircled by the old city walls of Sandwich, the house is afforded a remarkable level of privacy. Accommodation within reflects the integrity of the house and gardens with unmatched decadence and a truly world class feel to each room. Like a fine claret leaving you with a rounded after-taste, our rooms are tailored for the connoisseur.
