An amazingly quirky experience.

This is definitely not your 'run of the mill' B & B. From the moment you arrive and see the giant chair on the roof you know you're in for a different experience. The approach is through a reclamation yard, albeit a very tidy one and the whole style of the house is very quirky. From the gothic doors to the spiral staircases and the lavishly decorated breakfast table, complete with candles, the whole experience was very enjoyable. Read more

Wish I'd read the Trip Advisor reviews - BEFORE booking!

Arrived in what appeared to be a junk yard or reclamation centre. Proprietor friendly enough.
Mt friend's room had a large Velux window above the bed. It rained for the whole of our stay - so unable to open window for air without getting the bed wet! Bath tiny - no lid on toilet. My room had no window - no ventilation at all. Room was dirty, carpet stained, towels woeful - thin and dingy white. Hand soap watered down! Communal room filthy, reeked of smoke - abandoned fridge in middle of floor! Read more

Nothing - nothing at all - well breakfast at a pinch. The whole place is chaotic and dirty. Some reviewers call Alnwick Lodge 'quirky' - no problem with quirky - but it could be clean and quirky.
Dislikes?
Everything! Particularly the room, the Calf Pen - no ventilation, very dingy and very public - curtains had to be drawn over the window wall for privacy.

not my taste of a good B&B

We booked our room on line & the East Granary room came up cheapest. however, when we were there we discovered other guests had smaller cheaper rooms booked after ours through the local tourist information office.
The place was quirky & a real 'mismatch'.Access was by windy stone stairs & rope handrail! Our bed was so high I had trouble getting in. also the porthole window had no curtain-so dawn light came streaming in. No wardrobe-just a very small rail with old coathangers. poor TV Read more

Very overpriced room ( weren't told that yes, it could be a family room as small bunks were under the eaves.). Strange furniture & lack of facilities for 2 OAPS.

A most enjoyable and unusual B&B

We arrived to a warm welcome and a clean and unusual room (the silver bath room)for our first night, followed by three nights in the "Hayloft" which was equally unusual and a pleasure to stay in. The breakfasts were cooked to order by friendly and helpful staff. The owners were very flexible and accomodating with last minute changes to our schedule due to filming restricting access to Alnwick Castle. Read more

Wouldn't stay again or recommend

Stayed five nights. The breakfasts were alright, but not great. The rooms were full of old antiques, which sounds great, except they were in their original dirty condition
The rooms smelled of old used furniture that had not been cleaned. The whole place smelled of old used items. The outside had broken furniture which was part of the inventory, but had not been cleaned or worked on. This was a very odd place. It is advertised on their sign as being in Lonely Planet, and I can see why. Read more

Quirky, comfortable, clean, cosy and welcoming

Competing at a local shooting ground, Alnwick Lodge is nearby, easily accessible and had everything we needed during this stay. A Jewel in the Northumberland Crown!! If you're looking for a corporate hotel, this isn't for you.

It's described as a B & B but it's really so much more than that - it was like 'home from home' but without the feeling of being in someone elses home. It's quaint, qwerky & atmospheric - an ecclectic mix, with curios and antiquities on display coupled with modern age technology. The roaring fire in the popular residents lounge and the tea & biscuits on arrival were most welcome. A wonderfully relaxing stay. And for those who watch 'Four in a Bed' - Would we stay here again? Convenient, quirky, comfortable and caring.

Got a very courteous, friendly and helpful welcome at dusk. As soon as we drove off the road, everything around us created visual stimulation, was a talking point and will never be forgotten. So much care and thought has obviously gone into Alnwick Lodge, but above all, so much of someone's soul. You felt honoured to be invited into someone's life–long dream. Read more

Perfect for one night

Alnwick lodge is very different, full of antiques and bits and pieces. Difficult to access from the main road due to fast moving traffic. Good for a one night stay.

Remembered with a smile

We found the Lodge fairly easily. The surroundings were a surprise, with Romany caravans, chickens and what looked like a reclamation yard, but we had read that the place was a little quirky so it was interesting. The reception was not manned but help appeared very quickly. We stayed in the East Granary, which turned out to be a comfortable and spacious room. The bathroom was small, but had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable. We loved the quirky touches all around the Lodge. Read more

Experience with a Difference

We used Alnwick as a base for exploring the area - for that it was great.
We were taken aback to discover the way rooms seemed to be crammed into quite tight places, with that somewhat claustrophobic feeling. On hot nights, this might be a problem.
The approach to the property seemed to be through the back entrance of a farm, not, perhaps, the best first impression. Read more

Much better than your normal B&B

We arrived and were greeted by a very friendly member of staff who showed us to our room. We were then offered tea in the courtyard which was delightful. Our room was quaint and had real charm (west granary). The bed was very comfy and the roll top bath was great after a long day of sightseeing. Lovely setting, spoilt by the basics

Our family of five stayed in one room - the children's beds were too high (on MDF window sills) so the matresses had to be removed to the floor. The double bed myself and my partner slept in was lumpy and sloped to the floor. The bathroom was far too small to make it useable for a family. Read more

Stayed over for two nights while re visiting the area. It was a good central location for what we wanted to do. Myself and three friends visited Alnwick Lodge for a two night stay around a friend's wedding and really enjoyed our stay. We arrived late on Friday evening and phoned ahead to see if we could have a drink when we got there. We arrived around 11pm to a very friendly welcome, a roaring fire and comfy chairs and two bottles of wine. Lovely stuff and the perfect beginning to a brilliant weekend. All of our rooms were well equipped, very clean and very welcoming. I wish I could have stayed longer! Read more

Alnwick Lodge;a work in progress.

The accommodation was situated outside Alnwick adjacent to the A1 and the access was quite difficult. The building is a beautiful old house in rather a run down state and furnished with pieces of old furniture. The surroundings resemble a tip,but possibly represent a reclamation site. Our room was small, badly lit, poorly furnished and the bathroom which had modern fitments was tiny and cramped.Breakfast was served around a communal table and was adequate; customer care waslacking. Well equipped B&B, surprising & charming place, with friendly owners that makes an enjoyable stay !

It can be summarized saying that we regret to have been only one night in this place. Description

Alnwick Lodge offers a rural, picturesque, versatile, friendly and traditional bed and breakfast, right in the heart of Northumberland. Dating back to 1760, the Lodge was formerly a typical Northumbrian dairy farm, which has since been lovingly restored as a home, antique gallery and antique restoration workshops. The building resembles a fortified farm around a cobbled courtyard. It has a mixture of contemporary and antique furnishings and an antique gallery incorporated within. Guests are welcome to wander round the antique gallery after breakfast. Enjoy a candle-lit breakfast with locally-sourced food, including homemade breads and preserves with seasonal fruit from the garden. The Lodge is ideally situated just a 5 minute drive from Alnwick Castle and Alnwick Garden. Alnwick Lodge is a totally unique bed and breakfast experience and has the advantages of a superb ever changing backdrop of furniture, works of art, and beds old and new! Broadband Internet access, secure cycle storage and ample free parking are available.

All areas on the ground floor are accessible to disabled visitors and there is a disabled access room available. We can add an additional single bed into this bedroom .
