Hi James, Thank you for your review. I'm pleased you were happy with your room, the shower is particularly good and we get a lot of compliments about it. Thank you for your compliments about our home. I’m ever so sorry about the mattress. I’m sure you appreciate all guests have their own requirements when it comes to mattresses & unfortunately we cant always meet everyone’s expectations. Our website shows that phone bookings are cheaper because of high commission charges by on-line booking services-we are not being mean. We prefer to discuss with our guests their requirements and be able to offer this saving. We hope to welcome you back again.

Likes?
The shower and ease of access for my husband, little touches like the sherry in the room and the selection of hot drinks

Bed very hard & a shame that tinned rather than fresh tomatoes were offered at breakfast. Note in the room that if you booked on-line it cost more than if you phoned, seems mean in this electronic age

We’re pleased you enjoyed your stay and appreciate that a non en-suite room isn’t for everyone. Our 2 non en-suite rooms are a bit cheaper so suit guests on a budget. As you've noted guests booking online don’t always realise they have booked a non en-suite room. For online bookings, rooms that are described as having a separate private bathroom aren’t en-suite. To check if you can upgrade or to get our best rates please ring us directly. It was lovely having you here and hope to see you soon

Thank you for saying your stay was charming and friendly, and it is great to hear how much you enjoyed our breakfasts. Our large family room has a double bed and two single beds, and with so much furniture in the room a sliding door with a frosted glazed panel is used for the bathroom. This also has a net curtain screening the bathroom to give further privacy. Families find this room ideal and economical, but maybe you would be better booking two rooms to give privacy you want from you friends

Lovely barn conversion in a pleasant location

Stayed overnight en route to Yorkshire. Easy to find, and a very friendly welcome. It's a very sympathetic conversion of a large Tithe Barn, with comfortable beds and good decor. A excellent bed and breakfast

Although we only stayed one night it was very enjoyable, we got a nice friendly welcome and an upgrade into a superior room as the B&B were not fully booked, the information we received regarding local hostelries and restaurants was very helpful, The bed was very comfortable and big, and last but not least the breakfast was excellent, it was a full English with as much tea/coffee and toast as you liked, and extremely well cooked and presented. A great place to stay.

We stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting relatives & attending a local music recital. Everyone made us feel so welcome & the surroundings were lovely. Also very convenient for the village pub. Breakfast was delicious & no problems with us being non-meat eaters. Our room was light & with plenty of space. Particularly welcome was our own iron with ironing board & a large supply of coathangers. Plenty of choice with the tea & coffee facilities & sherry too! Best of all were the 3 friendly cats. Thank you for your review and we are really pleased to hear you think we have luxury accommodation, and a friendly welcome.

It is a shame you did not mention the shower to us while you were here, rather than in this review later, but it works perfectly well when you turn the power switch on. To make the radiator go hotter you have to turn the thermostat valve up.

We hope we can welcome you back again soon, to see more of the delights of our beautiful county.

Fully deserving of the four star rating for a B&B

The owners have really focussed on quality. Having an iron and ironing board is just one example of providing a full service normally only found in a hotel. Little touches such as a decanter of sherry and a bowl of mints made a real impact. Finally, each room very much felt as though you could have been staying in your own home. A great breakfast followed the next morning with some of the tastiest eggs I've ever eaten! (local farm apparently) We will stay again as a first choice. Read more

Description

Hello, and welcome to The Tithe Barn Bed and Breakfast in Cottesmore, which is a picturesque stone village in the unspoilt county of Rutland. There is a local thatched pub (The Sun), village store and Post Office and a great Fish and Chip cafe. The original house was built of the attractive local stone over five centuries ago and retains many unique features - notably the "Dovecote". We have our wood pannelled dining room where we serve delicious freshly cooked breakfasts, using locally sourced produce where possible. All of our rooms have everything you need for your stay, some having views over the garden. We offer five rooms in the main house and two superior rooms with superking-sized beds on the ground floor in the pretty cottage annexe - one with a delightful conservatory overlooking the garden. Rutland itself is a very pretty county with many villages having interesting pubs/restaurants including one with a Michelin Star. The three market towns of Oakham, Stamford and Uppingham are within easy reach as are the larger cities of Peterborough, Leicester and Nottingham. We are just two miles from Rutland Water which offers a range of activities cycling, windsurfing, fishing, walking, sailing and birdwatching. There are lots of interesting and historical country houses, castles and estates including Burghley House, Rockingham & and Belton House (NT). We are easily accessible by road, being only five minutes drive from the A1. Check in times are between 4pm and 8pm and departure by 10.30am.We operate a NO-SMOKING policy indoors. We look forward to welcoming you to our home where you will find we offer gracious yet friendly service - we really do have it all!
