Friendly hotel, good food and a great line in 70s music!

A lovely small hotel above a great old-fashioned English pub in a great location, overlooking the river a short walk from the centre of Ironbridge. The owner is super-friendly, the evening food is good and the breakfasts are superb. Good value rooms - we had a lovely large room for 4. And the music in the bar is great without being intrusive. Two nights B&B at the hotel with evening meals. The location was attractive by the river and ideal for Ironbridge exploring. Leaving the car at the hotel it was possible to walk to the bridge and the Museum of the Gorge. The other sites were very nearby and there is a seasonal shuttle bus. Unusual, but excellent bed and drapes; Clean

We were in Room 1. This pub/restaurant/inn (1774) creaked a bit, but that was part of the charm. The proprietor was friendly and helpful. He showed us to our room and explained the steps down into our private bathroom with a shower (large room). There was a small hall from our bathroom with 4 steps up to our twin room. Hall light with motion sensor for safety. Our room was smallish, but adequate. Desk with TV, but room for our laptop. Floor space for luggage rack. Traffic didn't disturb. Read more

Friendly spacious room with good food

The Bird in Hand is deliciously old fashioned in many ways - I haven't seen chicken in a basket since 1980; and the decor definately had an 80s vibe - however don't be put off by this - it was one of the friendliest places I've stayed; the food was delicious and the extensive evening menu very affordable; our room was large, very very clean, and the beds were extremely comfortable. The location just outside of ironbridge was great for families and we enjoyed locale attractions. Read more

Description

Our famous Inn was built 5 years before the Iron Bridge was completed. 90% of all duties are carried out by the Poulton family (Bill, Hazel, Steve and Michelle) so as you can see, we really are a family run Inn. We run our Inn how an Inn should be run in a historical village. NO DISCO'S, NO KARAOKE, NO LATE NIGHT MUSIC LICENSE AND NO LATE NIGHT DRINKING FOR NON-RESIDENTS, as many of the other accommodation pubs in our village do have these facilites. So if you stay with us according to our visitors comments book you will get excellent food, a good night sleep in our superb rooms, so you will be bright eyed and bushy tailed to visit our wonderful museums. Step back in time and walk on the first Iron Bridge to be built in the world to span a river. (The River Severn), which is the longest river in Great Britain. The source of the River Severn is Plynlimon Wales and discharges into the Bristol Channel. We have an excellent menu with a choice of 20 starters, 30 main courses from steaks, lamb, pork, gammon, chicken, mix grills, steak and ale pie and many different currrys, 5 fish dishes, full vegetarian menu and sunday roasts, finally but not least step back in time for our spotted dick, treacle and jam sponges. We also offer an excellent HALF BOARD option (Bed, Breakfast and evening meal) at a set price. Your evening menu has a choice of over 12 starters, 30 main courses and 12 desserts. This offer is the most popular with our guests as over 75% of our bookings are for half board, also depending on the time of year you can get your 3rd night free! Many of the local guest houses in Ironbridge recommend us to their guests as we have built up an excellent reputation for local dining over the past 28 years.

due to the age of the pub and listed building we are unable to cater for mobility problems.
