Very comfortable stay over a wild and windy weekend

We stayed for 3 nights. Although it was wet and windy we had some fabulous long walks along the river and up over the moors. Tarr Farm was great to return to with every detail thought of including dog biscuits for a very well walked and happy dog. The food was excellent although evening menu did not change whilst we were there. Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Read more

Ticks All Boxes.

Very neat and tidy place tucked away perfectly between the river and hills. It is a place where you absolutely can leave the outside world behind and sit by the fire reading a book while the rain lashes the window or take to the moors on a crisp sunny day. Food is very good. Staff understand their customers. A lot of thought has gone into how to attract customers to the dead end of a road in the middle of nowhere and they've got it absolutely spot on. Read more

Tarr Farm never disappoints, a special place that feels like home from home, our dog Charlie agrees

We were able to relax immediately having been made to feel very welcome by the staff. Our room was perfect, only enhanced by the doggy treats, blanket and towel provided for Charlie. The river is lovely and clean, perfect for washing off a four legged friend before dinner. We were only there two nights but our stay was so relaxing it felt like we had been there a week

Very relaxing. Beautiful rooms (we have stayed in two different ones now and both were excellent). Fantastic location although access road a little chaotic now the hot weather and holidays are here. No need to go anywhere, we just spent time enjoying the beautiful scenery that surrounds the hotel. Will be back again soon! Read more

Everything is thought of and provided for from simple things like shaving kit, needle and thread, headache tablets etc to extras like the doggy welcome kit with towels and bowls and biscuits.

Our only comment would be that compared to our previous stay the menu choices seemed a bit biased towards heavy red meat or fish.....there was no chicken option

Absolutely amazing and better than some 5 star hotels that I've stayed at!

Tarr Farm is on a par with a top hotel! The bathroom 'stuff' was so well thought out, everything was catered for, plasters, nail polish remover, there was nothing that wasn't there. The bedroom was clean and so comfortable and felt like a lovely spare guest bedroom at a relatives than a hotel which made it feel more like home.
Service was first class and the surroundings were stunning. Have been raving about Tarr Farm ever since I got home and recommended you :) Read more

An excellent hotel in an idyllic location.

This was a very relaxed break which re-charged the batteries for the weeks to come. The hotel provided a charm and an elegance which is not ofetn seen in many "country hpotels". The room was perfect with all the facilities you require for a restful long weekend. The location was great as it gave access to moles of walking country, very many interesting National Trust Properties and a stunning array of wldlife. Read more

The areas outside the entrance to the rooms could be prettier, screens or potted plants maybe?
Carpets in room 2 could be cleaner even if dogs are allowed.

How one describes a bedroom as small, measuring 15'6" X 11'6" (excluding the ensuite) is beyond us. We redecorate every public room annually in February. The fans are designed to run silently to avoid annoying other guests. Our food is not expensive and is widely acclaimed as being of excellent value and standard by our customers, the AA, Michelin, Egon Ronay etc etc. Please refer to other reviews and photographs 9, 16 & 26 on our website to make your own judgement as to "tired and dismal"!

Blissful Easter relaxation...

We had a wonderful time at Tarr Steps. The spot is famously beautiful & Exmoor is fantastic for walking, all kinds of outdoor pursuits (we tried clay pigeon & fly-fishing!) or just lazing about in beautiful countryside - make sure you have a car if you want to get about from the B&B though. The staff are very nice, breakfasts are fantastic and the food in the restaurant is great - personally, we couldn't afford to eat there every night, but as a treat it is excellent, with a good wine list. A great location, really comfortable, excellent dinners!

Exmoor is beautiful at any time, but this Easter break was perfect. Comfortable, really clean rooms, lots of goodies in the room including tea, and (real) coffee. Judy is a very welcoming host. The location of Tarr Farm is great, isolated, by the river, looking out onto wooded valley and moorland. Lots of wildlife, we saw a herd of 12 red deer, dippers in the river... The dinners were great, and enough variety so as not to have exhausted the menu in several days. Breakfasts were substantial. Read more
