Loevly stay in friendly, comfortable, historic B&B

Bev the proprietor couldn't be a more lovely, friendly and helpful person. She helped us with directions to local places, gave us tips about eating out, and appeared to easily accommodate my dietary requirements. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom facilities attractive and good. Anything we needed, Bev strove to provide during our stay.
WE would recommend Old Bakers Cpttage to anyone staying in the area who wants an authentic, homely and well-run B&B experience. Read more

Picturesque cottage in a quiet village

We stayed just the one night whilst visiting Heritage Wood just outside Ashbourne. The accommodation was lovely . The owner was very friendly sending a lovely welcome email on booking . She also advised that there was a great pub just over the road for food and even booked the table on our behalf ! Pity we only stayed the one night Read more

Birthday treat in a special place

I bought my sister to The Old Bakers Cottage to celebrate her birthday. We were greeted by the owner and made to feel very welcome. Our room was homely and comfortable. Our intention was to go to the public house opposite for a celebratory meal. Unfortunately they stopped serving food at 5pm. However, the owner of the Old Bakers Cottage phoned them for us and arranged for them to cook us a meal plus pudding! Nothing seemed too much trouble. A lovely stay. Read more

Very comfortable room (and beds) - nothing seemed too much trouble. Great breakfast and very friendly staff.
Dislikes?
The lack of parking was a bit disappointing. In the end we parked in the side road to the left of the property. The owner suggested the road opposite but this had a school and a bus stop!

I would say that these people couldn'd do enough for you; wonderful experience.

I picked the B&B off the web as it was a suitable location for a night's stop. If we hadn:t had the folling night already booked, we would have stayed another night. The couple who run the Bakers Cottage are fantastic and couldn't do enough for us.

I will be telling my friends back home in Australia to put this place on their lists. Read more

A relaxing, welcoming visit

The location was perfect for us, as we were visiting the National Aboretum. The accomodation was ideal, the beds great, and we were left to ourselves. Read more

Response

Hi Peter, thanks for choosing to stay at the Old Bakers Cottage and we are glad you enjoyed your visit, at the time of your stay the farmers were busy harvesting that week - the village road is now much quieter thankfully. If you are visiting the area again we would be delighted to welcome you both back, with kind regards Bev

Despite only recently moving in, our hosts could not have been more welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for them.
Dislikes?
Traffic noise. Unfortunately, the room overlooks a busy main road, and the time of year meant open windows. Not so bad during the night, but busy from first light.

Great, peaceful place for short getaway.

Wanted somewhere different from the usual travelodge style of accomodation. Beautiful village, very peaceful. Handy having a nice village local across the road! Many thanks to Phil and Gill for a cracking breakfast each morning and for recommending and even booking local restaurants for us. Very friendly and homely environment to stay in. Nothing was too much trouble. 5/5! Read more

Very warm welcome and great breakfasts!

This B+B is set in the heart of a small village and is in a great location for touring. The waterways provide a glimpse of life at a slower pace and if you like historic buildings, nearby Calke Abbey is a must! Although the pub opposite was under new management and not serving food, there is a very good selection of pubs and restaurants just down the road in Abbots Bromley. Read more

Owners extremely friendly and hospitable, with knowledge of the local area which helped make our stay memorable. The cooked breakfasts were excellent and the beds comfortable.
Dislikes?
The twin room could have done with another bedside table and brighter lighting, but this is a minor point, given the hospitality we received and vaue for money that this B+B represents.

Friendly service with an awesome breakfast!

We stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed it. The staff was friendly and very accomodating with our arrival times. They were very helpful by suggesting day trips for us to occupy our time, they even looked up the zip/postal codes to input into the GPS so we could find it more quickly. Read more

The breakfast was ENORMOUS, we skipped lunch both days. They served cereal, yogurt, toast juice and coffee to start then followed it with Eggs, bacon, sausage beans & hashbrowns!

No facecloths in the room, which is very typical for Europe. Definately not a deal breaker.
