The hosts at Colton house clearly go to a lot of effort to make their guests stay as pleasant as possible. Jackie went straight to her room only leaving for meals & go to a wedding. She never saw the cleaners as they could not get into her room during the time they were here, This meant that Ron had to clean her room when she was out, i.e Saturday afternoon. Beef stew is the only meal cooked in batches, vegetables were picked from the garden that afternoon.

Thanks for a great review we are pleased that you enjoyed our evening meal and also breakfast. Its wonderful that people do like the character of the house, we have tried hard to keep original features and also to combine them with 21st Century technology.
Confusion at the start as we thought we had booked a specific room, Paul's, which was the photo shown on the website, and having stayed before the room I wanted. Didn't realise we were just being given any room. The room we had was smaller but okay apart from the underfloor heating and the heavy counterpane on the bed, meaning it got very hot. Next time will ask for a duvet I think, blanket also heavy and too big for bed. Read more
Online bookings means you book a grade of room, in this case 1 of 7 rooms. The only way to get a specific room is to ring. Paul's room is 137sq ft the bathroom 63sq ft, and the room she had is 150sq ft bathroom 90sq ft, thus not smaller. We removed the counterpane and provided the the two blankets she wanted. In our confirmation to her prior to arrival we did ask if she wanted a duvet. Ron is pleased that you enjoyed the poached eggs.

Your review is a bit like your stay, Excelant. Thank you so much for that
Everything about this accommodation was good. We particularly liked the information about attractions in the area which had been left in our room. The location would have been grat as Colton is a very pretty village but there was no where to eat, the one pub did not serve food and the other pub was shut, so make sure you eat before you get to Colton. We stayed overnight in a superb room in this really beautiful house. Having taken a stroll around the fabulous gardens we had a quiet drink on the terrace - lovely peaceful atmosphere. After supper in an excellent local pub (The Dun Cow) we availed ourselves of the 24 hour bar - a really good facility. Breakfast was simply outstanding - beautifully cooked and very tasty. Read more
