Sorry about the footprints, will have words with the cleaners, we show all guests how to use the shower.
The confirmation email which you replied to asking for a duvet, points out we are a B&B, and that we could provide an evening meal with prior notice, which we did for the friends you were with. So sorry about the OJ I am sure if you had asked again we would have provided it however it was a very busy morning providing 12 breakfasts at 4.30am for guests that needed to get away by 4.45am.

Very pleasant short stay

The hosts at Colton house clearly go to a lot of effort to make their guests stay as pleasant as possible. This can be seen in implementation of many suggestions by previous guests on how to improve their service. Colton house are advocates of green tech with electric car charging station and led bulbs. They have won many awards for service, food and other awards, noemi of which I could dispute during my stay. This coupled with a long and interesting house history made for a pleasurable stay Read more

Excellent

My sister and I booked Colton House on line, it was one of four places we stayed that week and was far and away the best. A very friendly welcome from Ron, we both had immaculate rooms very individual and with everything and more in them a person could want. There is a beautiful garden to look out at. Read more

Simply 5*!

Two nights in Coachmans View twin room.
Spotlessly clean, thoughtful touches, such as fresh milk and chocolates left on pillows.
Quality and stylish soft furnishings.
Colton House clearly has been a labour of love for the owners Ron and Gay. The house has been renovated with incredible attention to detail to maintain and restore original features whilst encompassing the expectations of the todays traveller.
Sampled the breakfasts and dinners, surprisingly extensive and varied choices. Read more

A good B&B that's pretending to be luxury hotel

The house itself is very attractive, and my room was pleasant and well-equipped.

I only saw one member of staff (the owner, Mr Lawrence) over the three days I was there, who seemed to be doing everything himself, from cooking to cleaning. Read more

Response

Jackie went straight to her room only leaving for meals & go to a wedding. She never saw the cleaners as they could not get into her room during the time they were here, This meant that Ron had to clean her room when she was out, i.e Saturday afternoon. There's a proper hairdryer in her bathroom. Nowhere ever, do we say that we are a hotel, the guests confirmation letter says that we are a B&B. Beef stew is the only meal cooked in batches, vegetables were picked from the garden that afternoon.

Likes?
Nice room, extras like bathrobe and slippers you wouldn't normally get with a B&B (but I would rather have done without those, and the minibar, and had a proper hairdryer instead).
Dislikes?
Food not very good - they would do better to have a shorter menu with fresh food properly cooked, and not offer dinner at restaurant prices which is really just ready-meals reheated.

Beautifully designed rooms, comfy beds

Confusion at the start as we thought we had booked a specific room, Paul's, which was the photo shown on the website, and having stayed before the room I wanted. Didn't realise we were just being given any room. The room we had was smaller but okay apart from the underfloor heating and the heavy counterpane on the bed, meaning it got very hot. Next time will ask for a duvet I think, blanket also heavy and too big for bed. Read more

Response

Online bookings means you book a grade of room, in this case 1 of 7 rooms. The only way to get a specific room is to ring. Paul's room is 137sq ft the bathroom 63sq ft, and the room she had is 150sq ft bathroom 90sq ft, thus not smaller. We removed the counterpane and provided the the two blankets she wanted. In our confirmation to her prior to arrival we did ask if she wanted a duvet. Ron is pleased that you enjoyed the poached eggs.

We are sorry that you could not access the internet on this particular occasion although you did on the five/six other times that you stayed with us. Brilliant

We stayed for 2 nights in the Castle Howard room for my partner's 21st birthday, it was absolutely gorgeous, the furniture was lovely and the bed was very comfortable. The room had lots of facilities like WiFi and a mini bar which were useful. The bathroom contained a Jacuzzi which made our stay more relaxing after having a busy day and the shower had many different features to it. The Staff were very friendly and Ron and Gay made us feel very welcome. Read more

As the current holders of The Taste of Staffordshire 'Best Breakfast' there is no doubt that Colton House breakfasts are the envy and delight of many. They can be as much or as little as you like and also a plain or fancy as you wish. Ron is always there to add the final touches to whatever your heart desires, as far as breakfasts go that is!

Arrived 1pm anxious to go to the room, which other than for breakfast they stayed in for the whole of the time they were in the house. To have no hot water for the 22 hours they were here when other guests had no problem is inconceivable.

I found a jewel of a guesthouse which was as good as a 4 star hotel.

Met by Ron and Gay, both friendly and helpful. I had a very high standard en suite room with views of the beautiful garden. Other rooms worth peeping into, mouth dropping decorations and furnishings. Staff friendly and excellent value for money. I don't know how they do it. They won an award for their breakfasts, and dinner is served with home grown vegetables. Everything very clean. They have regulars, and no wonder, I will certainly go back when I am next in that area. Read more

Excellent accomodation and would recommend to anyone!

The building was lovely and homely inside, there were rooms to relax in on the ground floor with a small bar on hand in one of them .
The cooked breakfast was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone. The rooms were the best part for us as they had all mod cons but still managed to look sophisticated and expensive. The chocolates on the pillows and the expensive bathroom accessories were testament to their attention to detail. The beautiful gardens complete the picture. Read more

Excellent unique accommodation and facilities.

Purely as an evening away we had an overnight stay at Colton house, opting for the 4 Poster Room. The weather was on our side allowing us to make full use of fantastic gardens. Having an in-house bar was a treat, allowing us to sit in the sun with a cold drink. Having opted to dine in, we were not dissapointed - Our choice of main dish was served with vegetables which had been picked from the garden only a couple of hours before. Superb breakfast, served at any time that suits you. Read more
