Fantastic

What a great setting in its own grounds we drove up the driveway and when we entered the house we were met with the gorgeous christmas decorations like a santas grotto. The room was beautiful with a four poster bed and the bathroom was enormous with a free standing bath walk in shower and his and hers washbasins. The breakfast was continentle with a large selection of fruit cheese ham cereal yogurt toast. The location for us was great as we caught the bus into city centre just outside the hotel. Read more

Comfortable

The hotel is beautifully decorated & the continental breakfast was delicious, however I'm
Not sure it can be described as a hotel, it's more like a B&B as there is no bar or restaurant within. The hotel owner/manager did not make us feel
Welcome on arrival stating they did not take children under 5& it was policy. However this was not on website or terms & conditions & I had booked a family room !!! He later apologised but tbh it made us feel very unwelcome. Read more

Response

Thank you for your review. Our website does state clearly that we only accept children 5 years+. This has arisen because of guests booking a double or twin room and then arriving with a baby. Our insurance will only cover a certain no. per room and would be invalidated if this was exceeded. In your case, I realize that you booked a family room for three persons, therefore the insurance issue did not arise.I apologize if you felt unwelcome. I hope the rest of your stay came up to expectations.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted in a very cold manner as the owner/manager looked at our 2yr old child in disgust and stated that they did not have children under 5 in their hotel it's policy

Some What Disapointed...

We booked thinking we would be made to feel welcome and shown around the house and its ground. we weren't even offered, so we felt rude to just go wandering off in to parts of the grounds or the hotel. we pretty much kept t our rooms. i had to access the internet to find the history if the place, this should be provided in the rooms or at the desk downstairs.
In the morning we all wanted to use the sauna, the main reason we booked this hotel and told it was out of order!!! Read more

We are glad that you liked the rooms and the house. I cannot understand that you could not find the information sheets which were in both rooms that you occupied. These have detailed history of the house.
We would have been happy to tell you more and show you the house, but you didn't ask and we cannot assume that everyone who stays wants to be shown around. The information sheets do say ' please feel free to wander round the grounds'. I am sorry that the sauna was temporarily out of use.

The hotel is easy to find off the A1, and is a real treat as you approach via the sweeping driveway. The building itself is stunning and oozes history. As for our "room", what can I say? Not quite a hotel nor a B & B!

An overnight stay only. We are glad Mr. Dent enjoyed the house and facilities. Regarding bringing the dog . We explained, when the booking was made, that we did not allow dogs in bedrooms. We are dog lovers ourselves but in the past have had problems with guests allowing dogs on beds which is why we adopted a policy of 'no dogs', without exception.Mr. Dent assumed that if he turned up with the dog we would be obliged to allow access. This is unfair. Delightful room

I had booked this hotel on the internet for myself, my son and a friend as we were attending a Newcastle Match and travelling down from Brighton. We booked one double single occupancy room ensuite and one twin room. Read more

The double room was a very large spacious room with an ensuite large shower room . Very tastefully decorated and good value for money. The twin room was smaller but adequate.

My only negative comment was that it was too hot in the rooms and I couldn't see anyway to adjust the heat and it was not possible to open the windows

Amazing room

I know people have complained about the breakfast but I don't know why. You can always find something to moan about. The reason the hotel is good value is because the cost of providing hot food is so high. The breakfast I had was very good and the service was attentive. Room 5, well book it and see, I was stunned at what it had. This room would be expensive in a branded hotel. 4 poster bed, huge room, separate office, free broadband and a bathroom with a bath to fit two. Shame I was on my own!! Read more

A quality experience

Our party of 3 adults shared a room for 4 people. We stayed for 1 night during a visit to our niece's wedding celebrations. The room we stayed in was large [1 double and 2 single beds] with tea and coffe making facilities and a large flat screen T.V. Decor was light and airy, beds clean and comfortable. The room wasn't en-suite, but a large, immaculate bathroom was nearby and we didn't feel the lack of en-suite was a problem. Breakfast was very good with a range of cereals, yogurt, fruit, toast. Description

Welcome to Hedgefield House, a stunning Georgian mansion set in four acres of beautiful award- winning gardens, on the edge of the Northumbrian countryside. The house has a colourful history, prior to being converted into guest accommodation. Dating back to 1804, we have documented evidence that Hedgefield House was the first home in Britain to have a telephone installed. In 1877, the inventor of the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell, made the first experimental phone call from the drawing room to the local coal mine. We are ideally situated only 10 minutes from the city centre and Gateshead Metro shopping complex and 10 minutes walk to historic Ryton village, with its numerous cafes and restaurants. We are also only a short distance from the River Tyne and the Hadrian’s Wall walk. Its location makes it perfect for hikers, bikers and city visitors. All en-suite rooms are decorated and furnished in lavish French Louis style and are well equipped, maintaining many original features. A lavish continental breakfast is also included. We have leisure facilities available for our guests to use, including a sauna, gym and relaxation area. Free parking is available for guests.

We have one ground floor room with only one step to negotiate. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower.
