The hotel is beautifully decorated & the continental breakfast was delicious, however I'm
Not sure it can be described as a hotel, it's more like a B&B as there is no bar or restaurant within. The hotel owner/manager did not make us feel
Welcome on arrival stating they did not take children under 5& it was policy. However this was not on website or terms & conditions & I had booked a family room !!! He later apologised but tbh it made us feel very unwelcome. Read more
Thank you for your review. Our website does state clearly that we only accept children 5 years+. This has arisen because of guests booking a double or twin room and then arriving with a baby. Our insurance will only cover a certain no. per room and would be invalidated if this was exceeded. In your case, I realize that you booked a family room for three persons, therefore the insurance issue did not arise.I apologize if you felt unwelcome. I hope the rest of your stay came up to expectations.
We stayed over night last Saturday and it was a pleasure to be there from start to finish. Warm welcome on arrival then shown to a well presented and spacious room with large en suite. The continental breakfast the next day was the best we ever experienced so far and again staff were warm and welcoming. Would stay again. The hotel is easy to find off the A1, and is a real treat as you approach via the sweeping driveway. The building itself is stunning and oozes history. As for our "room", what can I say? We are glad Mr. Dent enjoyed the house and facilities. Regarding bringing the dog . We explained, when the booking was made, that we did not allow dogs in bedrooms. We are dog lovers ourselves but in the past have had problems with guests allowing dogs on beds which is why we adopted a policy of 'no dogs', without exception.Mr. Dent assumed that if he turned up with the dog we would be obliged to allow access. This is unfair. We did, however, offer a cool boiler house room. This was refused.

The reason the hotel is good value is because the cost of providing hot food is so high. The breakfast I had was very good and the service was attentive. This fitted perfectly, great location and bus service. The gardens were beautiful and it was pleasnat to sit out there in the evening. There were a couple of places where we could go for a meal and a drink so we didn't need to travel again after a hard day of walking.A lovely italian place down the road. The breakfast was adequate but as we don't eat a full breakfast it was fine and with enouggh choice. Read more
I arrived late at night for a business meeting the following morning. Staff contacted me on my journey to advise where the key would be. The hotel is a lovely old building. Staff took a personal interest which is very unusual these days. I would definitely use the hotel again. Read more

The hotel was lovely but our room in particular was superb for the money we paid. We had beautiful French doors into our bedroom which had an attractive fireplace and a useful seating area. Our bathroom was down a private (& interal) corridor. It was very spacious with a wonderful shower (even had a cloud!).
The staff/owners were very friendly and helpful. We will stay here again if we're ever in this part of the country. Read more
We stayed for 1 night on the 14th feb and had no problems at all. We booked the four poster suite which was beautiful. The bathroom was the best with a very large bath, fit for two! The room was large as well with a widescreen T.V. with digital channels and a living area. There was also a dressing room with hairdryer etc. You have access to free wi-fi also. We had a peacefull stay which is just what we had wanted, never disturbed and left to explore the secluded grounds. Read more
This hotel was a gem which, although being relatively local, I had not heard of before.
We stayed in the 4 poster luxury family suite and were very impressed with the quality of the decor and facilities. Also, the hotel was very quiet in spite of being full. It is obviously a must for the discerning client. Read more

Very well situated near Metro Centre. The bedroom was large and comfortable. Everything worked well and importantly, the hotel was quiet and my wife and I slept very well. Continental Breakfast was OK but would have been more enjoyable with the addition of some cold meats, cheese and rolls. However, the service to provide tea/coffee and toast was very efficient, cheerful and friendly.
Overall, a very pleasant hotel and would certainly stay there again. Read more

The room I stayed in was lovely, spacious with a huge bathroom. Unfortunately the water pressure was poor so although the shower looked amazing it didnt match expectations! I come to Newcastle every week for work and stay 3 nights a week in a hotel so specifically booked for the leisure facilities; gym and spa. Unfortunately they were closed, a big disappointment. I feel I should have been told this at time of booking. Breakfast was also a little poor, no cooked food (I like eggs). Read more

Welcome to Hedgefield House, a stunning Georgian mansion set in four acres of beautiful award- winning gardens, on the edge of the Northumbrian countryside. The house has a colourful history, prior to being converted into guest accommodation. Dating back to 1804, we have documented evidence that Hedgefield House was the first home in Britain to have a telephone installed. In 1877, the inventor of the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell, made the first experimental phone call from the drawing room to the local coal mine. We are ideally situated only 10 minutes from the city centre and Gateshead Metro shopping complex and 10 minutes walk to historic Ryton village, with its numerous cafes and restaurants. We are also only a short distance from the River Tyne and the Hadrian’s Wall walk. Its location makes it perfect for hikers, bikers and city visitors. All en-suite rooms are decorated and furnished in lavish French Louis style and are well equipped, maintaining many original features. A lavish continental breakfast is also included. We have leisure facilities available for our guests to use, including a sauna, gym and relaxation area. Free parking is available for guests.
