One of the most beautiful parts of England, the Peak District was designated a National Park in 1951 - the first in the UK. Its rugged crags are beloved of climbers and walkers who come to enjoy and explore its evocative northern Dark Peak and southern White Peak areas. Welcoming Peak District hotels, B&Bs and inns abound. Within the National Park lie charming market towns such as Bakewell (home of the delicious Bakewell Pudding) and beautiful country houses including Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. Outside, the rest of Derbyshire has plenty to entertain visitors too, including the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, the towns of Matlock and Derby, and Chesterfield, with its distinctive twisted church spire.
