Kirkby Lonsdale is an historic market town which lies between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Devil’s Bridge, built in the 12th or 13th century, crosses the River Lune which runs around the town and which was painted by the artists JMW Turner and John Ruskin (head to Ruskin’s View to see why). Kirkby Lonsdale hotels and inns can be found in and around the town square where the streets have unusual names such as Salt Pie Lane and Jingling Lane.
