As one of the country’s most popular seaside resorts, there are plenty of hotels and B&Bs in Torquay. The town and surrounding area is known as the English Riviera and the sunshine, villas and palm trees give the town the air of a seaside resort much further south than Devon. The town offers a choice of beaches and beautiful coastal walks, as well as many attractions. Visitors can explore Kents Cavern cave system where the oldest human fossil (over 40,000 years old) was found in 1927, plus Babbacombe Model Village and Living Coasts zoo. Alternatively, just relax with a good book – maybe one by Agatha Christie, who was born in the town.
