A trip long the preserved Swanage Railway from Wareham is by far the best way to arrive in Swanage. Puffing past the magnificent ruins of Corfe Castle and alighting from a steam train is a great way to slow down the pace of life. When you arrive you’ll find a charming Victorian seaside town as traditional as they come. Enjoy the beach, the pier and brightly painted beach huts and stay at a one of the many Swanage B&Bs. Or explore the beautiful countryside of the Isle of Purbeck, where Old Harry Rocks and the rugged cliffs to the north of the town mark the eastern end of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, a fine place for a spot of fossil hunting.
