The refined spa town of Harrogate is one of Yorkshire’s jewels. Excellent boutique shops and restaurants (including the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms), the lush Valley Gardens and the open parkland of The Stray attract many tourists to the town. The RHS Gardens at Harlow Carr and the annual Harrogate Flower Show are also major attractions. The town is a popular destination for conferences too, meaning there are plenty of hotels and B&Bs in Harrogate.
In Georgian times, visitors would have flocked to take the waters at the strongest sulphur well in Europe. You can try them yourself at the Royal Pump Room Museum – if the smell doesn’t put you off!
