The charming seaside town of Whitby, on the North Yorkshire coast, has long been famous for its associations with Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula. The author visited the town in 1890 and in the book, Dracula’s ship runs aground there; the picturesque Gothic ruins of Whitby Abbey which tower above the town no doubt served as inspiration.
Modern visitors (including the hundreds of goth music fans who attend the Whitby Goth Weekends every year) are assured of a warm welcome at one of the Whitby B&Bs clustered around the attractive harbour. Guests are well placed to enjoy Whitby’s sandy beach, historic buildings and award winning fish and chips.
