York has one of the finest preserved medieval city centres in England and its olde-worlde streets and alleys are a delight to explore. York Minster, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Europe, is a must-see, with masses of beautiful stained glass, including the ‘Heart of Yorkshire’ window.
