Carncairn Information

Description

We have two separate rentals,The West Wing sleeps 2 and is a completely self contained private wing of Carncairn (I regret we do not allow pets or children in the Wing.) The Grange sleeps 7 and is a bungalow about 200m from Carncairn Lodge, an old Georgian house dating from around 1800 which is secluded and private, set in the Braid Valley not far from the river and surrounded by beautiful mature woodlands with extensive gardens.. 1. Carncairn West Wing sleeps a single person or couple, has a kitchen/dining area downstairs and a living room, double bedroom and bathroom upstairs with smart TV's upstairs and down and good WiFi. It is a spacious, 53sqM in size and has exclusive use of the side lawn. We encourage guests to wander around the gardens. Parking is free. 2. Carncairn Grange, which is suitable for 7 guests is a separate house about 200m from the main house, 200sqM in size, so there is lots of space. We welcome pets and children to The Grange. It has 4 bedrooms, a twin, two doubles and a single. In addition it has a large kitchen, three hallways, a living room and a conservatoy, there is even an AGA in the Kitchen which can be lit if you want a gastronomic escape. There is a garage and wood/barbecue store, also lots of space outside with lawns on either side and at the front. It looks out over fields surrounded by mature woodland and over to the hills in the near distance. Both properties are surrounded by gardens and set in a beautiful landscape, ideal for a rural getaway. and great for walking or cycling, climbing the local mountain Slemish, where St Patrick tended sheep or fishing on the river, Broughshane is a pretty little town only half a mile away with coffee shops, grocers and most things you may need. Further afield are the Glens, the famous Coast Road for a scenic drive and Glenarm Castle only 20 mins away. Belfast to the south for the Titanic Museum or Portrush to the north for Golf or the Giants Causeway are only 40 minutes away.

Hi, we are Pam and Richard, we moved into Carncairn ( Richard's parents house) in 1992 when Richard's parents found it too big and decided move out. We only started self catering in 2017 almost by accident after Richard's mother passed away. She had been living in a wing of the house which we had converted for her. After some thought we decided to let it out for self catering as The West Wing and in 2019 added Carncairn Grange, a separate bungalow 200m away. We are well away from the road and all seem to love the rural tranquility, the beautiful gardens and the many things to do in the local area as well as the ease in getting to Belfast and the North Coast which are all less than 45 minutes away. Pam's passion is the garden and we have spent the last 30 years developing the gardens including a large walled garden with a greenhouse as well as bringing up our 3 boys. We enjoy meeting our guests but appreciate that most of them come to stay for weddings, exploring, seeing family or just getting away and pick us for the tranquility and secluded nature of the property so after meeting on arrival we respect your privacy unless you wish or need to contact us.

Directions

  • Road from Ballymena, County Antrim (5.0 miles)
Directions to Carncairn Grange or Carncairn West Wing . Please note, directions are slightly different to the two houses.
The address for Carncairn Grange is Number 38 and for the West Wing Number 40,  Carnlough Road, Broughshane, Ballymena, Co. Antrim. BT43 7HF.  Directions are simple, approach Broughshane on the Raceview Road ( A42) from Ballymena driving east in the direction of Broughshane/Carnlough. When you reach Broughshane, drive straight through the village and on the far side you will cross a bridge, keep driving straight on the Carnlough Road for half a mile until you come to a little yellow cottage on the right at the start of a line of beech trees on either side of the road. If you are going to the  Grange, continue driving150m into trees and turn left into a pair of cream gateposts and black gates ( What3words  limit.announced.acrobatic). When into the gates fork left through another set of small gateposts with number 38 on them and Carncairn Grange is up at the end of that drive. If you are going to the West Wing stay on the Carnlough Road and drive past these gates for another 200m around a bend in the road and you will see a second set of cream gateposts with the number 40 on them, turn left into them ( What3words  bowls.ready.attaching), drive up the lane and at the top bear left through an arch into a courtyard with red doors, the West Wing is the red door with a brass knocker on your left. Please park in front of the sign on the wall to the left of the door.
