The Gables Bed & Breakfast Information

Description

Up a steep & winding lane you will arrive at the Gables Bed & Breakfast, offering 3 individually designed rooms with comfortable beds, plenty of soft fluffy towels, TV, free Wi-Fi, tea making facilities. In a quiet location and with far reaching stunning views overlooking Matlock Bath, The Derwent Valley & Matlock you can look forward to a quiet, comfortable & relaxing stay with us. We have a double room with shower en-suite, a twin/king room with shower en-suite and our luxury master suite with large bathroom, roll top bath, walk in shower & a double sofa which can be made up as a bed you can sit and take in the views from your room. Breakfast in served in the dining room offering a full freshly cooked English breakfast, continental & vegetarian option, also, we cater for any special dietary requirements. Our breakfast is served to you so you can sit and relax. With many walks straight from our front door you can off to explore the beautiful countryside. In the summer sit out on the front patio with a glass of wine or in the guest's lounge with a wood burning stove in the winter. Our lounge has a mintrals gallery & large windows with views to Matlock Bath & Matlock. With the Peak District National Park only a few minutes drive away there is something for everyone, Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Haddon Hall, Cromford canal & mill, Carsington water Crich Tramway Village, Monsal Trail to name but a few. We look forward to welcoming you to the 'Gables'.

The original part of the Gables was a Methodist Chapel built in 1834 and there still parts of the chapel to be found. In the wall in the lounge is the font. The stairs going down to the lower level are the original staircase to the Sunday school room. Underneath the patio we found another room which was the coal house and also a door. It was only opened as a chapel for approximately 90 years. We have been told that the stone from the back garden was used to build Riber Castle, a folly towering over Matlock just up the lane from us. Over the years many owners have extended the house and it has seen many changes. We moved here in 2012 and have since changed the lay out in order have letting rooms for our guests and we are continuing to make it into a modern, comfortable house to share.
