Robert Walshe and Richard Robinson are the owners of this majestic Victorian property with spectacular views. Before Highcliffe, Robert a former Managing Director launched and ran some of the biggest commercial radio stations and media brands in the Republic and Northern Ireland for over 20 years. A successful broadcaster and publisher he has produced award-winning travel programmes and articles in the national press and on the radio. Richard ran four and five-star hotels for the Hastings Hotel Group including The Culloden Holywood, County Down, and the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa in Newcastle, County Down. Following a period in the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Invest Northern Ireland, he joined Queen’s University where he was Head of Accommodation operating 3,500 bedrooms. Both Robert and Richard have visited over 100 countries and stayed with some of the world’s finest hotel brands including Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, Peninsula, Kempinski, and Burl Al Arab. From their travels, they have collected an eclectic mix of art which are now proudly displayed at Highcliffe House.

Accessibility

This beautiful Victorian house was originally built in a conservation area as a family home and is not a purpose built B&B or hotel. The house is accessed by a steep, narrow lane from the main town of Lynton, which also has many steep slopes. There are no downstair bedrooms nor is there a lift to the upper floors. The entrance is accessed with handrails via three stone steps, a turning slab, three more shallow steps and finally two more steps through the front door. The ground floor is all on one level with the guest lounge and breakfast room. There is a staricase to the first floor with 19 steps to access four bedrooms and another staircase with 17 steps to the three top floor bedrooms. Directions

  • Road from M5 Junction 25 Taunton (45.0 miles)
    Follow the signs to Minehead on the A358 joining the A39 enroute. Lynton & Lynmouth are situated on the A39 approximately 20 miles from Minehead through Porlock and Exmoor. Once in Lynmouth follow the signs to Lynton up the hill where there is a sharpe 360 degree turn into the town. As you rise up into the town pass a car park on your left and take the next turn left immediately after the car park. Follow the road and the house is up the hill on the left hand side passed the Crown public house.
  • Road from M5 Junction 27 Tiverton (40.0 miles)
    From the M5 onto the A361 Barnstaple link road to the turning off onto the A399 at South Molton signposted North Devon, Ilfracombe and Lynton. Follow the A399 to the junction of the A39 at Blackmore Gate turning left to Lynton. At Barbrook (9miles) turn left and after about half a mile take the left fork up the hill to Lynton. Follow the road to the town centre (one way) and then take any turning right which will bring you onto Lydiate Lane. Turn left and at the Crown turn right up Sinai Hill.
