Gentian House Information

Description

The house is a three storey Teesdale sandstone town house built towards the end of the 19th century when Middleton in Teesdale was at the centre of the lead mining industry and the London Lead Mining Company had their headquarters there. Entirely refurbished in 2017, the house retains its 19th century charm whilst decorated in a sophisticated contemporary style. Both first floor double bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with shower and toilet, flat screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The room at the front of the property overlooks the centre of the historic village and the Bainbridge memorial fountain. The room to the rear of the property has views over Crossthwaite fell and Kirkcarrion, a bronze age burial mound. Downstairs is a sitting room with comfortable sofas, log burning stove and flat screen TV. The dining room also has a log burning stove and opens out onto a rear patio where meals can be taken in good weather. Middleton in Teesdale is a charming village with a number of pubs, hotels restaurants and cafes and with an excellent fish and chip shop. It has a bank with cash machine and a number of shops including a co-op store. The village is situated on the banks of the river Tees at the intersection of the Teesdale Way and the Pennine Way and is an excellent starting point for a number of spectacular walks. Further upstream lies the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Bowlees Visitor Centre, traditional hay meadows, stunning scenery and the spectacular waterfalls of Low Force, High Force and Cauldron Snout,. The dale is famous for its flora, known as the Teesdale Assemblage, including the only UK site where the spring gentian grows, from which the property takes its name.
