The Retreat Castle Rooms Information

Description

The Retreat Castle is a four star unique guesthouse minutes from the city by-pass and 20 minutes from the vibrant Edinburgh City Centre. A five bedroomed family owned and run guesthouse in Midlothian. The rooms are all individually designed with period features and all rooms have a flat screen, TV, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, iron, luxury toiletries and free wifi. Set yourself up with one or our hearty cooked to order breakfast with Scottish local produce. We have a private guest garden to the back with picnic tables for you to avail of which are an ideal place to unwind during the Scottish Summers. We are the perfect base to take in Rossyln Chapel, with a wide range of golf courses close by with the option of borrowing some clubs from us. Walkers and wildlife-lovers can explore the surrounding coast and take in East, West and Midlothian – perfect for beach walks in Gullane or Yellowcraigs and walks along the Pentland Hills and country parks to explore like Vogrie and Dalkeith. If you are getting married at either Dalhousie, Borthwick, Oxenfoord, Meville or Crighton Castles these are all nearby and we are a popular choice for local accomodation. Getting into Edinburgh is easy - there is the 31 bus service that runs directly outside which is only 30 minutes to the City and costs £1.60. This service runs with a bus every 20 minutes and late night buses at the weekends up to 3 am. Or Eskbank station is 5 minutes away to get the Scottish borders or direct to Waverley Station. Directions

  • Road from Edinburgh Airport (11.0 miles)
    Join the City by-pass at Gogarburn roundabout heading south A720. Take the Lasswade junction slip road and turn right through Lasswade. Follow directions to Bonnyrigg and go straight through Bonnyrigg in the direction of Gorebridge. Before you reach Cockpen roundabout The Retreat Castle Hotel is on the right hand side.
  • Train from Eskbank (2.0 miles)
    Eskbank train station is a 5 minute car ride from The Retreat and about a 25 minute walk. You can also get a taxi from the train station to us.
  • Bus from City centre (6.0 miles)
    You can get the number 31 from princes street or north bridge to us in the direction of Bonnyrigg or Rosewell ( NOT Poltonhall). The departs every 20 minutes and takes about 35 to reach the Retreat Castle. The stop you want to get off is called Brixwold bank - but just say you are staying at the Retreat and they should know. TIP- no change is given on the bus single journey £1.60.
