Blackthorn Gate Information

Description

Blackthorn Gate comprises four luxury holiday lodges – Curlew, Lapwing, Skylark and Chaffinch situated on the border of North Yorkshire and Tees Valley. Set in 230 acres of open farmland the lodges have been specifically designed and positioned with the huge windows at the front facing directly at Roseberry Topping so you can enjoy uninterrupted views of this glorious landmark! Each lodge has its own private outdoor hot tub, for an extra charge, please contact venue direct to book and pay. We accept up to 2 dogs for an extra charge, please contact venue to book and pay. There is also a Games Room with table tennis, pool and bar football and there is also a communal laundry room. We have onsite fishing in three ponds ranging from one to four acres in size. Rita's pool is stocked with carp and bream, Besses pool with crucian carp ,ide, chub, tench and roach and Eastfields Pool is stocked with roach and tench. In addition to the public footpaths that cross the farm there is a network of pathways that visitors can follow around the farm. There are about 35 acres of woodland which guests can wander through watching out for the abundant bird and animal life on the farm We are well situated for visiting both the coast or you can go inland on foot from the farm the National Park starts right in front of us. Or by train from Nunthorpe along the Esk Valley line calling at Great Ayton Kildale, Commondale,Castleton Lealome and eventually Whitby. By car the whole of the moors is your oyster visit Helmsley, Malton, Pickering, Hutton le Hole, or Danby, Further afield York, Durham, and Newcastle are all within easy reach. For lovers of food and drink there doesnot seem to be a village in the area that has not got at least one public house with a restaurant or bar meals. The jewel in the crown being the Michelin stared Star Inn at Harome near Helmsley. There are 3 restaurants within a mile and a half of us, all of which can be walked to if the weather and footpaths permit.

Accessibility

Skylark and Lapwing are the best option for wheelchair uses as they have a wetroom /shower area on the ground floor which is accessible with a wheelchair there is also a ground floor bedroom with double and single bed. We have on site a wheeled shower chair a shower seat a toilet frame, a raised toilet seat and a rotating transfer platform for transferring people from wheelchairs to seats which be booked by contacting the owners direct at no additional cost. All the lodges have a hearing loop installed which can be activated on request. Entry to all the lodges is either by ramp or steps and parking is adjacent to each lodge.

Directions

  • Road from The South (4.0 miles)
    Follow the A19 to the A172 . The sign posted drive way is three miles past Stokesley directly off the A172 on the right hand side of the road.The drive way is three quarters of a mile long the first building you come to on the left hand side of the drive is the farmhouse please stop there and ring the front door bell and we will take you to your lodge.
  • Road from The North (4.0 miles)
    from the a19 south take the A174. Leave at the 3rd exit onto the A172. Turn right at the traffic lights at the top of the slip road. Follow the A172 until you reach a r/a where the A172 goes to the right stay on the A172 after a 300yds you will come to another r/a stay on the A172 400yds further along turn into the sign posted drive to Blackthorn Gate. Follow the drive for 3/4 of a mile and you will reach the farmhouse. Please stop and ring the doorbell and we will take you to your lodge.
  • Train from Darlington (22.0 miles)
    Darlington is the nearest mainline station. On arrival there are local services to Middlesbrough or Nunthorpe. A taxi is the easiest way of getting to Blackthorn Gate. Tel Boro Taxis 01642 222222 or Blueline Taxis 01642 300300
  • Air from Airports (18.0 miles)
    The nearest airport is Durham Tees International Valley 18 miles away,with the bigger airports of Newcastle International Airport 56 miles away or Leeds Bradford International Airport 58 miles away.
