Description

Nestled in the heart of the village, this charming property has recently been refurbished to a very high standard. Haydon Bridge is located in the heart of the South Tyne Valley and is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding tranquil countryside of Northumberland and Durham. This small family run, 4 bedroom bed and breakfast offers a friendly welcome and calm and relaxed atmosphere, where the owners David and Lois will be on hand to ensure you have a wonderful stay. The local area boasts some of the most picturesque locations in the North East of England. Haydon Bridge is only a few miles from Hadrian’s Wall, Vindolanda, Houseteads and the many forts and sites of the wall itself There are also the numerous National Trust and English Heritage properties and sites of Northumberland and County Durham, including Wallington Hall, Gibside, Cragside and the various Castles and historic sites of the Northumberland Coast. Don't forget the glorious heartland of Northumberland with Kielder Forest and the lovely rolling hills and valleys of the the Northumberland National Park. To the east, is the rural town of Hexham, at its heart is Hexham Abbey, which dates back to the 7th century, going on a little brings you to the city of Newcastle, whilst travelling south from Haydon Bridge takes you into the countryside of County Durham and the lovely Weardale and Teesdale Valleys, not forgetting Alston, the highest market town in England, with the amazing journey over the North Pennine Way. Whilst heading west will take you into the splendour of the Cumbrian mountains and the Peak District. Haydon Bridge and Shaftoes, truly do sit at the centre of this most scenic part of England's many green and pleasant lands, at the heart of these British Isles.

Directions

  • Road from A69 from East (Newcastle) (1.0 miles)
    Turn off A69 where sign posted for Haydon Bridge, to the right. Take the first turning on the left (before the bridge and speed camera). Shaftoe's is located on the right, half way down the street, at the opening for the footbridge.
  • Road from A69 from West (Carlisle) (1.0 miles)
    Turn left where sign posted for Haydon Bridge. Follow the road through the village, taking the first turning on the right after crossing the road bridge. Shaftoe's is located on the right, half way down the street, at the opening for the footbridge.
  • Train from Haydon Bridge Rail Station (0.39 miles)
    From the Haydon Bridge Station head South along Church Street - you will have the library on your left and the Methodist Church on your right - passing the Chemist and butchers. At the junction of Church Street and Ratcliffe Road head over the old footbridge, once across you will see Shaftoe's immediately on your right.
  • Road from A686 from South (Alston) (1.0 miles)
    Travelling along the A686 past Langley Castle, heading north you will arrive at a junction to your left, sign posted Haydon Bridge. Take this road into the village, passing our local Primary School to your right, Shaftoe's is located at the end of the long terrace to your left, prior to the footbridge across the river South Tyne.
