Description

Sir Walter Elliot would have chosen this spacious bedroom with its comfortable beds and finely veneered gentleman's press. He would have enjoyed the view southwards across the simple town gardens typical of the period, towards St Mary's Bathwick - a fine neo-gothic church designed by John Pinch in 1810 but only completed in 1820. The screen printed wallpaper and border used in this room was recreated from fragments dating to around 1810 and discovered in a house in Queen's Square. The original paper was stamped on the back printed by Harwoods Manufactory in London. This Second Floor room can be arranged either as a king-sized double or a twin room, and it has its own en-suite bathroom (with bath tub).

Description

Mrs Clay would have enjoyed the wonderful view from the windows over Sydney Gardens and up to Solsbury Hill as she mused which Elliot would be most likely to deliver her the best chance of title and fortune. The striking but soft wallpaper design was based on the border and stripe used in Queen Hortense's salon in Chateau d'Arenenberg in Switzerland - the house she had refurbished after her step-father Emperor Napoleon was forced into exile in 1815. This second floor room can be arranged either as a king-sized double or a twin room, and has its own en-suite shower room.

Description

When the BBC filmed Persuasion in this house, this Third Floor room represented a garret in Westgate Buildings where Anne Elliot meets Mrs Smith and her companion Nurse Rooke as they discuss her proposed betrothal to Mr Elliot who is trying to win the Elliot title and any remaining fortune for himself. The room looks out over Sydney Gardens Vauxhall as Jane Austen herself did when her family lived at Number 4 Sydney Place just a few years before this very house was built. The room itself is bright and spacious but not so high that it looses its cosiness. The comfortable beds can either be set as twins or a king-sized double. Should you be in a party of three wishing to share a room we can put up a firm sofa bed - subject to request. There is an en-suite shower room with this bedroom

95 Sydney Place Information

Description

Step back in time and enjoy the spacious elegance of Sir Walter Elliot's House as filmed in the 1995 BBC production of Jane Austen's Persuasion! This amazing Regency town house has been painstakingly restored to how it might have been in the 1810s with lovely furniture, period prints and specially printed wallpapers so you can experience life as the 2nd Earl of Camperdown might have done, when he lived in this house in the 1830s, before going on to become MP for Bath. Guests are welcome to use the first floor drawing room with its elegant windows overlooking the park. We provide a choice of breakfast - Full English or Continental with an Austrian twist - in the conservatory, or our homely kitchen, or even in the garden when the sun shines warmly enough for you! The house is directly opposite Sydney Gardens and the Holburne Museum with its fascinating permanent collection and top notch visiting exhibitions, and the level walk past the classical facade of Great Pulteney Street to the city centre will hardly take you five minutes. We are some 600 yards from the famous Pulteney Bridge, and from there you can enjoy the excellent shopping, restaurants, museums and architectural sights for which Bath is world-famous. The house is perfectly located for your stay in the Georgian City, your visit to the Roman Baths, and your relaxation in the 21st Century Thermae Spa!
