Jim and Nicole have been married 20 years. In 2004 they decided to build a small Inn. Nicole drew the house plans and with the help of one other man, they built it. It opened in July 2006. Jim is a fourth generation Alaskan who’s great grandfather, Forest Hunt, and great grandmother, Harriet Hunt, came to Alaska in 1898 lured by news of a rich quartz strike. They owned a meat market on Front Street. Their pet bear could sometimes be seen waiting outside the store. Forest was Ketchikan’s mayor and a state legislator for years. Harriet was an avid photographer. Her photos can be seen throughout Ketchikan. They owned Hunt’s Book and Novelty Store where you could “buy almost everything you want”. It closed in 1954. Jim grew up working in the family businesses. He was a DuPont explosive distributor, float plane pilot, tugboat operator, fisherman, & environmental cleanup/recycle specialist. He is always happy to share his knowledge about Alaska’s history and the topography of South East Alaska. Nicole is a former teacher and university & hospital administrator. She has degrees in education, art, and psychology. Landscaping & interior design are 2 of her favorite pastimes.
