Ambulance Trailer Information

Description

Welcome to Toad Hill! We are a privately owned 45 acre landholding in the White Mountain National Forest in Chatham, NH. Toad Hill offers off-grid luxury camping accommodations close to hiking, elevated mountain fishing ponds, Langdon Brook’s waterfall, and skiing, snowmobiling, or snowshoeing trails. Our property is home to abundant wildlife and boasts access to multiple hiking and biking trails, alpine ponds, cross country and backcountry ski trails, a snowmobiling corridor, a waterfall, and a beautiful view! We are located about 20 minutes northwest of Fryeburg, Maine, home to the best beer this side of the Kancamagus, Saco Rover Brewery, and exceptional food at The Oxford House. There is a small natural foods market, Spice and Grain, a coffee shop, a smokehouse, and abundant fly fishing and road biking with views in the area. Come enjoy this secluded retreat in nature with a yurt or tipi stay, or housed in an old ambulance trailer, a hippie bus, a wall tent on a deck in the woods, or just camp. Enjoy what this peaceful place has to offer!

Directions

A car is recommended when staying at the property
  • Road from Bethel Regional Airport (30.0 miles)
  • Road from Conway (20.0 miles)
From Conway area take 113 north.
Go to the Stowe, Maine general store at the junction of 113 and 113B. Keep store on your left and continue on 113B.
Stay on 113B until it comes to a junction with the church about 2 miles. Keep straight on to toad hill road. It's a well fairly well maintained dirt road. I drive my ford focus up all the time.
After about one mile. At the fork go right, there is a house in the middle of the fork. Please go slow. The sign says road not maintained and logging operation. The road should be fine for normal cars and is maintained privately. After half a mile you will come to forest service gate. It says no cars but my guests have permission to pass. The code is 1229. Continue to the red barn at the top of the hill. The Ambulance is in the field. Please do NOT drive on the field. Leave the same way you came in.
    -winter months-
You can drive to the end of toad hill road. This road is plowed only after storms so be careful not to get plowed in.
    Option two/three
Park at the bottom of the hill where the fork is and ski or walk up Langdon brook road take a right at the top of the hill then walk over another one or two bridges and continue on until you see the field. The ambulance is in the field.
The other option is to go up toad hill road and follow the previous directions.
