The Rifle Volunteer is set in the County of Hertfordshire in the small town of Ware. The history of this Public House and Bed & Breakfast dates from around 1841 when it was owned by a Ware maltster. By 1850 it was the named The Union Jack until at least 1864. It then became The Rifle Volunteer after the brave men and women who picked there Rifles and formed a citizen army of part timers and created a popular movement in the British Empire in 1859.
The Rifle Volunteer is a traditional local pub and is a 5 minute drive from the A10 Junction for Ware, 8 minute walk to Ware Train Station, 5 minute walk to Ware high Street, 5 minute walk to GlaxoSmithKline Factory. Nearest golf courses are Hanbury Manor and Whitehills Golf within 5-15 minute drive away, 5 minute drive to Fanhams Hall Hotel and Wedding Venue.

The Rifle volunteer has two bars – The Snug Bar which is a small bar which seats 16 and standing area at the bar. It has door to access outside seating area which offers great views over Ware and an internal door which leads to the Public Bar, car park and toilets.
The Public Bar has 2 dartboards, pool table and juke box. It has seating for 32 people and standing room, plus 2 50” TV’s which show all Sky Sports and BT Sports.
We have a newly refurbished beer garden with seating and is a perfect sun trap on summer days. We also have a Petanqué Piste if you would like to play.
The Bed & Breakfast rooms have all been refurbished in 2017 to form 5 Double and 2 singles, all with En-suite Shower rooms.
