Bucklawren Farm Information

Description

Welcome to Bucklawren Farm Bed and Breakfast. We look forward to welcoming you to an unforgettable stay in our beautiful Cornish Farmhouse... Bucklawren Farm Bed and Breakfast is a working arable and beef farm that is set in deep unspoilt countryside. It lies on an ancient Celtic site and the original manor was mentioned in the 11th century Domesday Book. In medieval times there was a nunnery here but it was destroyed in the 16th Century by Henry VII during the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Bed and Breakfast accommodation is provided in our elegant 19th Century farmhouse with spectacular views over Looe Bay. Our bedrooms are very comfortable and individually decorated with ensuite facilities. We also have a large lounge, dining room and conservatory where you can relax and unwind. One of our bedrooms is situated on the ground floor and is ideal for guests with limited mobility. We provide a traditional farmhouse breakfast that is cooked on our AGA, other lighter options are available and any other dietary requirements are catered for. Bucklawren is the perfect base to explore Cornwall. Looe and Polerro are both unique fishing villages that are only a short drive away. The famous Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are two attractions that are nearby and are well worth a visit. Within walking distance is The Monkey Sanctuary where you can see a colony of Monkeys within their own extensive territory. There are many National Trust properties to explore and of the course the locations where popular dramas such as Poldark and Doc Martin have been filmed. There are numerous restaurants and pubs within the area that serve fabulous local food and we can assist you with choosing the perfect restaurant during your stay. In the area there are also other activities available such as golf and fishing and a zip wire that also has go-karting facilities. We look forward to welcoming you to our Farmhouse.

The original Bucklawren Manor was mentioned in the Domesday Book. At that time it belonged to Launceston Priory and during that time is was used as a Nunnery. In 1540 it was seized by Henry VIII and then came under the ownership of the Duchy of Cornwall. The present farmhouse was built in 1839 by the Duchy. In the late 1930’s the farm was purchased by the Great Metropolitan Railways who intended to put a railway through to Looe and build a Golf Course. Then came the Second World War and the plans were dropped and the farm went into private ownership. The 400 acre farm is run commercially and supports a beef herd and 220 acres of arable cropping. Crops currently being grown are wheat, barley, oats and rape.
