The Red Lion Information

Description

The Red Lion is a family run pub B&B. The pub itself is the longest running free house in the area. Our rooms are finished at a very good standard with an emphasis on the cleanliness. Our restaurant serves homemade traditional dishes, with some of them as famous signature items such as the Red Lion steak pie or the fresh fish and chips (all home made) We also serve a great range of beverages from cask ales to gins to probably the best house wines in the area. Spend long evenings in front of the huge open fire, slowly sampling the drinks with a stomach full of food, then simply conveniently wander upstairs to your room last thing. You can not get a better location than Matlock green for your stay. We are just on the outskirts from Matlock itself, but only by a 5 minute walk through a beautiful park. So you are away from the (slight) hustle and bustle of the main town, but close enough for a stroll around the sights. Matlock is a beautiful place to visit. There are some amazing sights to see and places to visit. Plan a visit to Chatsworth House, Hadden Hall (Both about 10 min drive away). Explore High Tor or Riber for the most spectacular views, these can both be walked to from the Red Lion. The rooms you will be staying in all have ensuite rooms with a shower, basin and toilet. All the linen is fresh and clean. The rooms are cleaned top to bottom. They also have a TV with the normal freeview channels. There is tea/coffee making facilities in each room too. There is a car park to the rear of the building. Bakewell is 13 minutes away, Chesterfiled is 15 minutes away.

Philip Mews is the longest serving landlord in Matlock and quite frankly within a good 10 mile radius. The pub was built up from the ruins around 1990 and made up to its modern look and feel that we have now. It is a family run pub in the very real sense, with his son, sister and nephew working there. The guys and gals that work there are special as well. They have all grown up in the area and have a friendly manner with both locals and visitors. Phil and the crew all love the area and are experts on the walks and sights here too (we can even give inside info on some of the lesser know walks in the area).
