A warm welcome awaits you at The Old Post Office; luxurious rooms, comfort and delicious food in a charming characterful bed & breakfast. Situated in rural Co Durham, only 7 miles from Durham city, Lanchester is a picturesque village with many local amenities and restaurants. An experience with unusual hosts with real food flair and backgrounds focused on making your stay pleasurable, knowledgeable and healthy. The Old Post Office has 3 lovely individually designed en-suite bedrooms. There are plenty of books, maps and local tourist information for you to browse through and Keith and Pauline are very happy to help you plan your day to make the most of your time in Co Durham. Throughout the house there are beautiful textiles, a mixture of antique and contemporary furnishings and original artworks.

Accessibility

Unfortunately, all bedrooms are accessed via two short flights of 7 stairs, with a landing in the middle. All en-suites have walk in showers.

Directions

  • Road from From A1M (10.0 miles)
    Whether travelling from the North or South come off at Junction 63 and take the A690 into Durham City. Follow the road and carry on over the Milburngate Bridge over the river. At the next Traffic Lights and mini-roundabout take the 3rd exit on the A691 to Consett (effectively you are turning right). Following this road on the A691 over several roundabouts and Lanchester is 6 miles along that road. Turn left into the village and immediately right into Front Street. Look at for the Post Box on RHS
  • Train from Durham Ststion (8.0 miles)
    Arrangements for pick up can be done with the owners, if available. Otherwise take a taxi to Lanchester Village to The Old Post Office, 27 Front Street on the main road through the village or walk down to the Durham Bus Station and catch the 15 or 15A to Consett and Lanchester is roughly halfway. Get off the bus and walk straight ahead on the RHS and The Old Post Office is 27 Front Street next to the red post box.
  • Air from Newcastle Airport (25.0 miles)
    From Arrival take the Metro to Newcastle Central Station. Transfer to the Southbound trains that stop at Durham Station (the next stop around 12 minutes journey). Walk down to the town and the Bus Station is in North Road. Catch a 15 or 15A to Consett, get off the bus at Lanchester and walk up Front Street to find our house. Alternative the owners can either pick you up, if available or take a taxi to Lanchester Village - The Old Post Office, 27 Front Street.
  • Bus from From Durham (7.0 miles)
    The Bus Station is based in North Road, a short walk downhill from the Railway Station. The Bus connection is the 15 or 15A from Durham to Consett, which runs every 30 minutes straight into Lanchester Village. Once departed from the bus cross the road and walk in the direction of the bus for 150 yards in the Front Street and you come straight to The Old Post Office at 27 Front Street, just past the Post Box
