The Fox and Hounds Información
Descripción
Situated in The Vale of the While Horse, off the A420 between Oxford and Swindon, Uffington is about 8 miles north of the M4 through Lambourne, of race-horse fame. The nearest Market Towns are Faringdon and Wantage, each about 15 minutes' drive. Shrivenham Defence Academy is just 3 miles away at the Watchfield roundabout on the A420.
The Village has a 13th Century Church, shop and Post Office, and several literary connections. It was the early home of Thomas Hughes, whose renowned book "Tom Brown's Schooldays" begins in the old school here. It is now an interesting little museum. John Betjeman lived here in the 1930's and 40's, during which time he wrote many famous works. Tolkein, while based in Oxford, visited this area, and it is said much of his inspiration for Middle Earth came from the Ridgeway nearby.
An ideal base for walking, cycling, horse-riding, angling, visiting historic properties, golfing, or just chilling out at any time of the year. Warm welcome, caring staff, log fire, high standards, excellent food and selection of fine beverages, including Real Ales. Well-behaved dogs welcome.
All Rooms are at ground level. Room 1 has a level entrance, and is spacious enough for a wheelchair user and a further two people. The en-suite wetroom/shower is wheelchair accessible. There is a fold-down bar to the right of the WC, and a grab rail and stool in the shower area. The shower is recommended for wheelchair users as it is very adjustable, yet gives an excellent shower to all visitors. Care and thought has gone into the room to make it accessible to as many types of disability as possible, however it is not fully "Disabled Compliant" simply "wheelchair accessible". Room 2 has a three inch step outside the entrance. We've a number of wheelchair users who visit our pub regularly, but there is one six inch step up at one entrance, and two 6 inch steps down at the other. There is one 7 inch step halfway along the bar counter. Stone or tiled floor throughout. Our friendly and helpful staff (or some of our lovely locals) will be happy to assist
